Summary

Education

Skills

I am 79, after a life of intense work, I’m bored to death of the so called “well deserved rest” and I’m eager to roll up my sleeves and get back into the productive population.

I am a man of culture, knowledge, and extraordinary experience.

My special gift has always been the handling of difficult situations. Both because of:

1.my ability of analyzing issues, breaking them down into their essential components and finding appropriate remedies.

2.And because it is my inborn habit to always involve all relevant people in a serene discovery process and in the adoption of “simple, common-sense, fail-proof corrective steps”. I deeply, deeply believe that solutions work only if everybody centrally or marginally involved in the issue is also involved in the analysis and solution so everybody pulls in the same direction

I enriched my strong basic education with a degree in Political Sciences and 2 years of Law School at the University of Roma – Italy. My strong desire of economic independence and a horizon that expanded beyond the walls of my native town, pushed me to seek employment with the Italian Airline where I had the opportunity to participate to a score of post-graduate courses and high level training in several business related disciplines such as management styles and techniques, transactional analysis, optimization techniques, marketing, etc. I have been for many years an active member of A.M.A. and M.R.A.

In addition to English I speak Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and some French with university level Italian. Most importantly, I deeply understand the mentality of the different ethnic groups.

In the US I took a Lifeguard license as well as a Captain license with all related courses in First Aid, CPR, Fire prevention, etc.

I am at ease with Microsoft Office and particularly with Excel. In my company Marthech Design I controlled the manufacturing of approximately 50 different finished products, made out of 2500 components, using a database built by myself on Excel. The database was vast and complex but built with checkpoints to make sure not to lose the “human equation” in the process. After all the elegant and sophisticated products come out of the caring hands of many “Maria’s and Juan’s” ultimately responsible to load on trailers thousands of impeccable quality products on a very tight schedule

In my business life I became known as a man that thinks “outside of the box”. In the Airline I was assigned to jobs/stations plagued with deteriorated internal conflicts; my formula never failed to yield the desired results. And, I must add, the results were always obtained without too much struggle. After all everybody loved the “breath of fresh air” or the serene style of a big meeting of almost 100 airport staff members eld at JFK after the departure of our last flight around 10 pm in a large area with all of us sitting on the floor.

2014-Now

Retired

Retired performing occasional consulting jobs

1999-2013 NY

Owner and President

Martech Design Company

A small and extremely efficient company dedicated to the conception, design, engineering and manufacturing of product displays for different industries, products and brands. The largest Client of Martech has been R, J, Reynolds Tobacco. Martech has handled exclusively the manufacturing of Reynolds nationwide “Flexmaster” program as well as a score of other displays and some product manufacturing implements for the Winston Salem manufacturing plant. Due to the high level of confidence established through years of impeccable performance, Martech was often called to consult on projects awarded to other suppliers.

1995-1999 New Jersey

Program Manager

Advertising Display Company

The largest Point of Purchase (PoP) company in USA at the time. I was “stolen” from my previous job and hired for my managerial and organizational skills more than for the unique knowhow associated with operators in the PoP industry

1992-1995 Long Island

VP International Marketing

Ledan Design Company

My first brush with the display industry. I knew the owners of Ledan and they hired me to help in an expansion on the European market. I ended up saving their company from a catastrophe, when they lost control of the flow of thousands of components of a large national program, resulting in the inability to assemble these components into the products they had committed to deliver. This “rescue” gave me the reputation of a “problem solver”.

1987-1992 Manhattan

President

Roberta di Camerino USA

Retail and wholesale operation of fashion soft goods and accessories in need of taking a different approach to this market. In spite of the dramatic bottom line improvement achieved in the first year, the designer and owner decided to stick to her ways, and I resigned

1982-1986 Rio de Janeiro

General manager for Brazil

Alitalia Airlines

I loved every minute of my 4 years in Brazil… but my kids were Americans, We owned a beautiful mansion in Westchester, I received a pressing job offer in New York and with my first job in the airline (long term planning) I had concluded and presented to the Airline C.E.O. that in absence of significant fleet expansion the company would lose market share, become increasingly marginal and slowly vanish. The fleet was not expanded situations started to precipitate and I resigned and went back home in New York!

1978-1981 Manhattan

VP marketing sales and operations USA, Canada, Mexico and Central America

Alitalia Airlines

In charge of marketing sales and operations USA, Canada, Mexico and Central America (30 sales offices, 5 airport operations, 2 reservation centers. After so much studying and evaluating, the bucket stopped with me and I performed without yielding to political pressures of any kind, so I was promoted out to set out a fire in Brazil.

1974-1977 Roma

Marketing Coordinator Americas

Alitalia Airlines

Making sure that targets and planning of each peripheral organization integrated into the master plan of the company. The job implied frequent travel and long periods of work in New York or Buenos Aires where the coordination of respectively the north America and South America regions took place.

1970-1973 Manhattan

Manager market research and planning

Alitalia Airlines

The North America organization played a crucial role in the overall economic health of the company. A small office was created to be the personal staff of the President for North America and essentially be the long harm of the office I was working in Roma! My life changed in so much that instead of flying every other week from Roma to New York and back now I flew every other week from New York to Roma and back! Indeed I had an opportunity to get to know the America beyond New York, and met, for instance, the Italian waitress of a restaurant in Dallas who read and translated for our Regional Sales Manager the all-important circulars received from the Roma based Company Headquarters in Italian !

1964-1970 Roma

Strategic and midterm planning - North and South Atlantic

Alitalia Airlines

Job consisted in compounding all information from field offices or international conferences into a 5 years plan of services complete with expected revenues, requirements of equipment, pilots and cabin crews. A separate department projected the costs associated with the projection to arrive at a projected P&L of the program; It was a year-round work requiring frequent meetings and field trips to confirm theoretical assumption with the gut feelings of the people in the field that ultimately would commit and come up with real gross sales and expenses to make our 5 year plan become reality. The second part of the job consisted in issuing a time table for a system of flights to become operative two years later…. The first step to link the 5-year plan with reality!
