SUMMARY Enthusiastic biomedical engineer with an intense affinity for R&D. The year spent in the Prof. M. Lütolf's lab at EPFL as Intern and Master Thesis Student gave me the chance to develop strong research skills in both engineering (Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Microfabrication and Prototyping, Microfluidics, Device Testing and Optimization, Data Analysis) and biology (Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Culture, Cell Based Assays). By independently working on my project, I could also improve my Problem Solving, Decision Making and Troubleshooting skills. Being a fresh graduate opens a lot of possibilities and I want to choose the best one between the many options. I'm sure that being part of a MedTech or BioTech company in Research and Development would surely be one of the best choices. EXPERIENCE
09/2019–02/2020 Internship
Prof. Matthias Lütolf, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) Lausanne, Switzerland
Member at Prof. M. Lütolf's Laboratory of Stem Cell Bioengineering Development of a microfluidic device for the encapsulation of intestinal stem cells and for the intestinal organoids mass production.
The research project involved:
• device conceptualization and optimization (literature analysis, Computer Aided Design
(CAD), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD))
• microfabrication in clean room (GLP in the clean room environment, plasma cleaner, photolithography equipment, PDMS micromachining)
• device functional validation: fluids composition optimization (rheology, surface tension), microfluidic device testing (fluids flow rates vs performance)
• functional validation of core-shell microcapsules (geometrical characterization, data analysis, gelation time, gel swelling, encapsulation ability)
• primary cell culture (mouse intestinal crypts, GLP in Biosafety level 1 laboratory)
• biological validation (cell encapsulation, optical, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, cell-based assays)
02/2019–08/2019 Master Thesis Project
Prof. Matthias Lütolf, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) Lausanne, Switzerland
Hosted at Prof. M. Lütolf's Laboratory of Stem Cell Bioengineering Thesis project: Microfluidic encapsulation of intestinal epithelial cells for the automated production of intestinal organoids.
Winner of the Politecnico di Milano's scholarship: "Tesi all'estero / Thesis abroad" EDUCATION AND TRAINING
09/2017–06/2020 MSc in Biomedical Engineering Magna cum laude Politecnico di Milano, Milano (Italy)
Winner of the Politecnico di Milano's scholarship: "Tesi all'estero / Thesis abroad" I built a strong technical and analytical background in the fields of biomaterials, microfluidics, and biotechnologies.
Tissue Engineering Regenerative medicine
Cell cultures Biotechnologies
Microfluidic systems Organs-on-chip
07/2014–09/2017 Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering 108/110 Politecnico di Milano, Milano (Italy)
