Engineering Design Testing & Troubleshooting Case Study Reviews

Assumed Engineering Student role—participated across various academic assignments and in-class projects. Studied various coursework that included electric machine, power system stability and transient, power system analysis, power system protection, power electronics and financial management for engineers.

Project Highlights:

Project I: Design of an Organic Electrochemical Transistor, Bio Wearable Device, Duration: 8-Month

Scope: Collaborated with a team of engineering students to assist with the design and development of a bio wearable OECT–organic electrochemical transistor that is capable of reading end-user PH & glucose levels.

Engineering Design: Led the architecture of a functional design to meet client requirements—assessed client needs and researched requirements for the development of a consumer bio-wearable OECT device. Oversaw the development of a design that included the integration of an amplifier to modify signal, multiplexer for the acquisition of reading and 2 transistor types for converting of voltage with the amplifier.

System Commissioning: Presided over the assembling, testing and commissioning of OECT biowearable system—utilized voltage regulators, level shifters and ADC–analog to digital converter to convert analog to digital reading. Led the programming of MCU–micro-controller unit and assisted with the development of a mobile phone application to control the device through BLE–Bluetooth.

Technical Documentation: Oversaw the development of design packages and technical reports—utilized Eagle PCB design software to design wiring schematics and device drawings. Oversaw the soldering of components, wiring and testing of breadboard and employed LTspice to lead the simulation modeling and ensure meeting of the optimal design.

Project II: MCU–Microcontroller Units Programming & Troubleshooting, Duration: 4-Month

Scope: Worked individually and in group settings to oversee the programming and testing of MCUs.

Programming & Testing: Developed the programming language and design packages—oversaw the assembling of an MCU–microcontroller unit, 4 LEDs, an LCD display and switches to develop “Simon Says Game”. Oversaw the wiring of the breadboard and utilized C programming to develop coding sequencing, gameplay commands and communication patterns to LED and LCD displays. Troubleshooted budgets and architected a full functional gameplay.

Project III: Lab Work for Power Electronic—Technical Report, Duration: 4-Month

Scope: Worked individually to oversee the testing of various power and electronic devices in the U of A lab.

System Testing: Oversaw system testing and troubleshooting of various systems—studied 1-phase and 3-phase power rectifiers, DC choppers and voltage manipulators, DC to DC converter and DC to AC converter. Measured harmonic voltage noises and total harmonic disruptions. Conducted load calculations to assess changes in loads, stability and transient in power system and presented reports to lab instructors.
