Dai Lab, NEU, Boston September 2020- Present

Graduate Research Assistant

• Cultured human embryonic cell lines according to American Type Cell Culture (ATCC) guide and passaged the cell lines, changing medium and checking for microbial or fungal contamination.

• Performed cell counting and analyzed cell culture growth with varied passage number and biomarkers with the help of immunofluorescence imaging microscope.

• Maintained a laboratory notebook and took biosafety trainings by BIORAFT including Orientation for Labs with COVID-19, Autoclave Classroom Training, Biosafety Classroom Training and Hazardous Waste Management. Movement Neuroscience Lab, NEU, Boston October 2019- April 2020 Graduate Research Assistant

• Produced simulation results for biophysically realistic neuron models of cortical stimulation using NEURON software with the help of ModelDB Python codes provided by the Yale University.

• Collaborated with The University of Utah for project on cortical neuronal stimulation and found contradicting results to the recently published paper.

ACADEMIC PROJECTS

Neural Tissue Engineering paves a novel pathway for the treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease, NEU, Boston March 2020

• Reviewed the theories of pathophysiology and the need for novel approaches in treating neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s Disease.

• Performed data analysis for stem cell-based treatments based on the published experiments and research, proposed a unique neural tissue engineering application intending to find a cure for the disease. Vein Detection using Image Processing, GTU, India June 2018- May 2019

• Developed a prototype vein detection instrument which could easily detect vein location in the presence of a camera with near-infrared light source projecting the output on a laptop screen.

• Produced images with enhanced quality through image processing techniques like thresholding, watershed and adaptive histogram equalization methods performed on ImageJ and MATLAB software, making the prototype very cost effective. Ion channel modeling for pyramidal neuron in Alzheimer’s Disease, GTU, India June 2018- May 2019

• Modeled affected neurons using MATLAB and NEURON software to understand Alzheimer’s disease better and to study action potential effects in a diseased state vs the normal state.

• Proposed a mathematical modeling for analyzing the electrical effects of ion channels during actional potential using Hodgkin and Huxley model.

• Simulated electrical activities for calcium channels under the influence of various electrophysical parameters and proved that among all other types of calcium channels, L-type calcium channels contribute the highest towards the neuronal degeneration. SKILLS
