Staffs 24 bed unit caring for intermediate care patients with a variety of hematologic malignancies and solid tumors. Collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare team for management of chemotherapy dosing, pre-transplant education, acute and chronic oncologic conditions and side effects, administration of bone marrow transplant medium, assessment of potential advanced level care, intensive education tailored to patients and caregivers and patient advocacy during daily rounds. Oversaw all aspects of clinical nursing practice. Charge nurse role and design of nursing assignments. Serves as primary preceptor for nursing students, including the UNC-SON Nursing Oncology Fellowship. Trains new graduate and experienced RNs. Perform assessments on 3-4 transplant and oncology patients in an intermediate care setting. Administration of autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants.
