TOPIC: Manufacture of 100 TPD of Propylene Glycol From Propylene The project studies the production of 100TPD propylene glycol from propylene. Various processes available are studied initially. The technology adopted include the direct oxidation of propylene to form propylene oxide and then undergoing liquid phase hydrolysis in excess water to produce propylene. A detailed description of the process is obtained and the process flow diagram is developed. Subsequently material balance and energy balance is calculated. The steady state simulation is carried out in unisim. The plant layout and safety is also done along with design of one of the integral equipment of the process, which is heat exchanger. Safety aspects of the plant are analyzed and MSDS for propylene glycol is made and HAZOP analysis of Conversion reactor is carried out. The cost Estimation for the plant and It's profitability analysis and payback period are calculated.
