Once in a Blue Moose stores rely on tourists and locals to purchase our product. Our world has changed with the pandemic and has made it so nothing is normal. Our sales in our Anchorage stores have been down over 65% and our net profit down over 100% through the end of August 2020. We have been forced to downsize and restructure in order to try to survive. One of our tough decisions was to lay off all our Anchorage store managers. Managing duties are now being done through our main office. Even these drastic measures will not ensure that our business can survive through the winter.

Jean Dreher has been a valued employee of Once in a Blue Moose/Westco since 2/3/2003. Jean started as an assistant manager in the very beginning of her employment with us. For many years, she worked in HR where she did the hiring, scheduling and training for all the Anchorage stores. She was a steady person when the job could be demanding. Jean went on to become manager of our store in the Dimond Center Mall when we distributed HR duties to the store managers. Her creative flair showed up in displays and the overall ambiance of the store.

In addition to the normal sales duties, Jean helped hire and train new employees for her store, delegated and assigned tasks, organized merchandise, cashed out registers, created the store schedule and monitored inventory. The store ran smoothly with Jean as manager. Jean Dreher is intelligent, dependable, hard- working, reliable and artistic. We would highly recommend her. It is with a heavy heart we have made this change.
