City of Oakland Language Consultant and Maya Mam Interpreter

During Covid- 19 mass communications efforts, council member Noel Gallo, and Mayor Libby Schaff of Oakland, came together and formed a team to distribute information rapidly for emergency funds, food banks, health advocates, and other resources for the Maya Mam community. It was the first time it was attempted via Zoom and I am proud that my experience allowed a channel of communication with the maya Mam population.

Weekly on Saturday’s the Maya Mam Community comes together, pray together, and sing together and share information via word-of-mouth and bible study. Safe, Positive and constructive zone.

Grupo Juvenil Choir Music Group

Music has been a positive therapeutic outlet for the Maya Mam. Grupo Juvenil brings together people from all walks of life to come and invest their energy in a productive and empowerment opportunity through music.

Maya Mam Community Interpreter Community Interpreter

Serving as a liaison and interpreter for the Maya Mam community all the way back when no Maya Mam Interpreter ever existed and it was the beginning of my life-long learning life style.
