Main Responsibility : Patient Care
Overall Responsibility : To provide a good standard of nursing care which will promote the recovery of the patient as well as establishing a good professional relationship with working colleagues
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Staff Nurse in the Ward
Helps with the assessment of the patient under his/her care and the newly admitted so as to collect relevant data and information. She plans the care to be provided by making use of available resources and implements care that has been organized in an effective way. Evaluates, Monitor patient’s condition. Receive and give report on patient’s condition and treatment prescribed by the physician, to the next shift. Provides general physical care to the patients assigned in his/her care. She also collects samples as requested by the Medical Team for laboratory investigation. Take and record vital signs and inform the physician of any changes in patient’s condition. She assists in the setting intravenous infusion and maintains an accurate recor of fluids administered to the patient. Administer injections and prescribed as well as other forms of treatment ordered of the doctor. Established and maintain a good rapport with working colleagues. She maintains and updates all relevant charts. Checks all equipments on a regular basis, making certain they are in good working order. Demonstrate competence in Cardio- Pulmonary Resuscitation and other emergencies. She also maintains a good professional conduct with patient’s relatives as well as informing them of any changes in patient’s condition. Always maintain confidentiality of discharges. Carry out Post-Mortem care whenever applicable. She also promotes his or her own professional development in terms of education, skills and attitudes so as to maintain correct trends and practice. Demonstrate awareness of the socio-cultural factors involve in nursing practice. She performs additional duties as required by the immediate superior.
