Title: Perceptions of the Nurse Practitioner Role

Research Faculty Committee Members: Karen Brown-Fackler EdD, RN, CNE & Marcella Welker FNP-BC

• This study compared views on the perceptions of the nurse practitioner role between registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and physicians in the state of Michigan.

• Study findings suggested that there is a varying range in agreement related to NPs being appropriate to perform certain responsibilities, and these differences may be due to physicians still not viewing NPs as autonomous.

• The most common barrier to collaboration is the lack of physicians’ awareness of the scope of practice of NPs, the level of education they must hold, and what is inherent in their roles as NPs. MSN/FNP CLINICAL EXPERIENCES
