RESEARCH PROJECTS AND EXPERIENCE
Strong experience working both individually and in collaborative environments. o 5+ years’ experience managing and working on collaborative research projects with clinical experts and industry collaborators. Experienced in understanding unmet clinical needs, utilizing and acquiring knowledge to develop products (software/algorithms, etc.) and applying such products in real-world data (including clinical trial data).
o 3+ years’ experience mentoring and managing PhD students and master students, responsibilities including guiding students to develop research plans as well as mentoring students with publication writing, resulted in mentored students’ first-author publications.
Strong writing and oral communication skills. Published over 40 peer-reviewed journal papers, including 10 first- author papers, and over 10 conference presentations, including 2 invited talks. Served as peer reviewers for more than 8 different journals.
7+ years’ experience of conducting research in optical imaging, especially using computer vision approaches to solve clinical problems with human eye data. Familiar with medical imaging systems, medical signal processing, biostatistics, python, R and LabVIEW.
Designed, developed and deployed a comprehensive quantitative analysis software to process human retinal vasculature data collected from optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). o Developed and maintained MATLAB based software for collaborators’ use since 2017; features including vasculature segmentation, image registration, biomarker extraction, etc. o Resulted in 2 first-author journal publications and 1 patent, these have been well accepted and lead to over 17 co-author journal publications from 5 different collaborations.
Designed and developed quantitative analysis algorithms (MATLAB based and python based) to process human choriocapillaris data collected using OCTA.
o Developed a protocol for choriocapillaris visualization and quantification using OCTA. Resulted in 2 invited conference talks and 1 invited perspective paper from American Journal of Ophthalmology. o Worked with industry partner Carl Zeiss Meditec. to incorporate algorithms into their cloud-based, data- processing, Advanced Retina Imaging (ARI) Network platform. (MATLAB based) o Resulted in 8 first-author journal publications, 1 pending patent and over 12 co-author journal publications from 3 different collaborations.
