Education:
Completed a Bachelor’s of Science at Iowa State University in Environmental Science. Enrolled from Fall 2015 to Spring 2019. I minored in Political Science, had a cumulative GPA of 3.61, and a 4.0 major GPA. Recently completed a Master’s of Science program at University of Wisconsin-Madison in Environmental Conservation. Cumulative GPA of 3.85, enrolled from May 2019-September 2020.
Graduate School Experience:
Completed environmental policy and planning, biodiversity courses, and conservation planning at University of Wisconsin-Madison with honors. Worked on a team of 6 interdisciplinary scientists consulting for a project conserving riparian habitat for the Southwest Grasslands Network Driftless Area in Wisconsin. Communicated scientific information and created vulnerability assessments on Brook Trout to climate change.

Project Experience
Conservation Program Management and Evaluation Intern, Conservation Planning Project for the SW Wisconsin Grasslands Network. September 2019 – December 2019. Consulted with local farmers, land managers, and Ho Chunk Nation on best management farming practices to improve water quality and brook trout population size. Created and managed a new project to bring farmers to the table on environmental conservation decision-making. Proposed results chains and new strategies, along with a full budget for future use in grant applications
Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment, Climate Change Ecology Course. September 2019-December 2019. Created a response to climate change geared towards Brook Trout’s specific habitat requirements, vulnerabilities, and sensitivities. Synthesized research from reputable sources on Brook Trout population characteristics. Used climate modelling to predict viable locations for future populations. Listed off suggested actions for land managers interested in keeping the population in fishing areas.
Water Quality Independent Study Student, Iowa State University. May 2017-August 2017, Ames, IA. Collected water samples from the major streams of Ames, Iowa. Performed water analysis on phosphate, nitrate, nitrites, and other important chemical levels. Used data from previous years to calculate change and propose management options for the future.
Work Experience:
Environmental Program Evaluation Intern, Legado. May 2020-September 2020. Mozambique, Africa. Supervisor Stephanie Mladinich. 505-***-****. Combined research on behavior change with suggestions for new activities, indicators, and objectives to reach program goals and receive grant money. Conducted evaluation of current deforestation and behavior change initiatives in Mozambique, Africa. Created a synthesized literature review of current research practices on qualitative behavior change and how to influence individuals to adopt new behaviors/ideas. Integrated research on behavior change into Legado’s current project management. Practice in technical report writing for both scientific and general audiences.
Environmental Health & Safety Student Assistant, Iowa State University. September 2018- May 2019, Ames, IA. Supervisor Jason Terry 515-***-****. Served as an assistant to the Environmental Specialists on staff. Complied with Clean Air Act regulations from Iowa State University, which is categorized as a major source of air pollution. Controlled hazardous materials and waste removal. Participated in an operation disposing dangerous and/or unwanted materials safely. Learned valuable OSHA, RCRA, CAA, and CWA base information. Communicated with researchers at Iowa State to ensure compliance.
Entomology Lab Assistant, Iowa State University-Reiman Gardens. May 2017-Jan 2019, Ames, IA. Supervisor Anita Westphal 515-***-****. Worked with Entomologist Nathan Brockman on assisting with Hesperiidae scientific research and their lifespan in relation to herbicide application. Engaged with the public about research in the Entomology Lab and insects in our USDA containment facility. Participated in Greenhouse supervision, along with a monarch rearing facility containing three different species of milkweed plants. Assisted in the development of an identification application for Rhopalocera across North America. Participated in surveys and fieldwork on insects in Iowa summers. This information was used to track the rate of migration in the Monarch butterfly.
Conservation Intern, Blank Park Zoo. May 2018-August 2018, Des Moines, IA. Supervisor Jessie Lowry, 515-***-****. Worked under the Director of Research & Conservation. Engaged the public in pollinator conservation with the organization Plant. Grow. Fly! Created environmental education materials for multiple conservation projects. Collaborated on the “Iowa Hunter’s Leading the Way” campaign, proposing that hunters use non-lead ammunition in order to benefit wildlife, especially the Bald Eagle. Collaborated on campaigns to benefit wildlife. Formed a campaign--including a pledge, incentives, and social media--to encourage a reduction in our single-use plastic consumption. Created social media to benefit our cell-phone recycling program.
Volunteer Experience:
Legislative Ambassador, Iowa State University. September 2016- May 2017, Ames, IA. The Iowa State Legislative Ambassador Organization at Iowa State University lobbied at the state capitol on behalf of all students at the university. Fostered relationships and engaged the Iowa State community in what matters most to them.
Plant. Grow. Fly! May 2018-December 2018. Des Moines, IA. Participated in workshops to persuade the public to adopt conservation best practices in their own yards. Held pollinator-friendly activities to engage youth.
Honors and Awards:
Obtained the Cardinal Leadership Scholar Award for all of my undergraduate experience. This scholarship was awarded to outstanding freshman on merit for 4 years. Also achieved the President’s Ace Award on academic success for my undergraduate tuition. Completed semesters with at least a 3.5 GPA, from Fall 2016 to Spring 2019.
