Sole mid-level provider working with a plastic surgeon in a private practice of five personnel. Provided pre- and post-operative evaluations and regular follow-up exams on surgical patients, monitoring for potential complications. Became a Certified Practitioner for BioTE (BioIdentical Testosterone and Estradiol) Pellet Therapy. One of two medical providers for a county jail which houses approximately 350 male and female adult inmates. Required to obtain and maintain a security clearance throughout the course of employment. Offered comprehensive healthcare to address both acute and chronic medical needs according to standardized procedures and protocols. Identified medical emergencies, provided appropriate emergency care, and arranged for transfer to the nearest appropriate healthcare facility. Initiated treatment for inmates going through substance abuse withdrawal. Performed daily sick call in order to identify and treat acute health conditions promptly. Ordered and interpreted diagnostic tests such as labs, imaging studies, EKG and PFTs as needed. Performed a broad range of medical services including prescribing medication, suturing, foreign body removal, incision and drainage, biopsies, nail excision, joint injections, Nexplanon/IUD removal, PAP tests, and other minor office procedures. Consulted mental health staff as needed when these services were deemed appropriate. Provided discharge planning as required. Responsible for the medical readiness (physical, dental, vision, hearing, immunizations), preventive medicine (PAP, mammogram, EKG, colonoscopy, etc.) and mental health of all soldiers assigned. Supervised daily triage of acute injuries and illnesses. Provided oversight for the training of over 40 medics, including routine and emergent medical care. Mentored and trained PA students during their primary care rotation, sharing knowledge and experience with future PAs of the Army. Obtained patient medical histories, conducted in-depth examinations, and determined the need for diagnostic testing for accurate assessment. Ordered and interpreted diagnostic tests such as labs, imaging studies, EKG, PFT, and PSG. Performed a broad range of medical services including prescribing medication, suturing, splinting, incision and drainage, biopsies, nail extraction, joint and trigger point injections, insertion/removal of subdermal contraceptive implants and intrauterine devices, and other minor office procedures.

Deployed from May 2009 - May 2010 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom X as the sole medical provider for a Level 1 Aid Station in the Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan. Resided at a Forward Operating Base to provide medical care for about 400 U.S. Soldiers and 150 local nationals including laborers, interpreters, Afghan National Army and Afghan Security Guards. Developed and implemented medical Standard Operating Procedures, mass casualty drills and created eight Casualty Collection Points. Key Contributions / Achievements:

Selected to serve as the interim Senior PA to oversee seven other PAs in a clinic which staffed over 40 personnel and cared for a patient population of over 19,000 active duty service members

Became credentialed in the placement and removal of long-active reversible contraceptives, resulting in fewer gynecology referrals and better access to care for female soldiers.

Became a point-of-care laboratory supervisor and ensured that medics were trained and authorized to work in the lab, allowing the laboratory to remain open in the absence of a laboratory technician.

Recognized by supervising physician for developing an efficient way to screen a mass number of soldiers for medical conditions which might require a medical waiver to deploy; system was adopted as the standard for the 4th Infantry Division in 2009.

Implemented a phone line as a convenient alternative to sick call for soldiers, making medical care more accessible and minimizing work absences.

Completed a Pain Management and Tropical Medicine Course in order to broaden knowledge and improve outcomes for soldiers with these issues
