Resume:

Dear Sir/Madam

I hope you are healthy and doing great. I am writing this letter to express my interest in the postdoctoral position in your lab. I have recently completed my PhD under the supervision of Dr Adesh K Saini, an alumnus of NIH from Dr Alan G Hinnebuschs lab. The title of my PhD dissertation is ‘Identification of residues in human peroxiredoxin I for their role in maintaining the redox potential in cells’. We used yeast as a model system for this study. Briefly, Peroxiredoxin proteins reduces oxidative/nitrosative stress and acts as chaperone. They play a dual role in neurodegenerative diseases cancer etc. i.e. they promote as well as suppress them under different conditions. By introducing mutations and protein analysis we found that they not only act as peroxidase but also play an important role in elevating the expression of other genes. We also identified a novel residue which is crucial for its chaperone activity. These findings will help in understanding their regulation and dual role in diseases. Apart from my PhD work I was also involved in a project where we developed a working model of Alzheimer’s disease development by inducing circadian rhythm disruption using constant chronic light in Wistar rats. Briefly, we found that constant light disrupts the rhythms of redox and transcriptional oscillations in the rat’s brain which leads to a dysfunction in myriad cellular pathways. During my PhD, I have practiced various biophysical, molecular and cellular techniques. The details of which are mentioned in my CV attached with the mail. If given an opportunity to work in your group I think I can make useful contributions with my technical skills in molecular biology, Yeast genetics and by putting forward new ideas. I also believe that a postdoctoral opportunity in your lab will allow me to expand my expertise and become an independent researcher. I hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Ashu Mohammad
