MSc of Coastal and Marine Processes (NUI Galway)

BS of Environmental Science (Knox College)

I am a recent graduate in marine/coastal science and marine spatial planning. I consider myself to be technically proficient in GIS and remote sensing with a growing knowledge of the physical environmental processes and their management implications. My scientific background is in subjects of coastal geomorphology, ecology, and physical oceanography. I have recently finished writing my masters dissertation on multivariate impacts of extreme Atlantic storms on Irish coastal dune systems.

EXPERIENCE

APR 2017 – AUG 2017

GIS INTERN, Field Museum of Natural History (chicago)

Worked under archives curator to process and manipulate fifty years of museum specimen for GIS and Marxan Maximum Entropy models. Taught first year undergraduates and GIS interns basic GIS principles using ESRI Online Database.

JAN 2017 – MAR 2017

STUDENT CREW, SEA EDUCATION ASSOCIATION

Deployed and monitored oceanographic equipment (CTD, Benthic Grab, Day Grab, phytoplankton net, ADCP) aboard SSV Corwith Cramer in the Caribbean Sea. Processed and recorded phytoplankton, zooplankton, and benthic samples for future onshore analysis. Assisted in the navigation and other essential tasks aboard the SSV (cooking, cleaning sail handling).

EDUCATION

SEP 2019, MAR 2020

MSC OF MARINE AND COASTAL PROCESSES, NUi Galway

Gained a first person understanding of coastal processes and their localized management implications. Participated in a community workshop addressing coastal erosion in County Clare. Developed a solid understanding of the context of marine spatial planning in the Framework of EU Directives and its context in global climate change. Manipulated public geospatial data in order to conduct site descriptions for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

Relevant courses include:

MSc Dissertation: Multivariate Analysis of Coastal Storm Impacts in County Kerry.

Reconstructing Marine Environments

oOceanographic Equipment Deployment aboard the RV Celtic Voyager. Preserved oxygen and chlorophyll samples from CTD Deployment. Conducted a transect survey of benthic and pelagic fauna in Galway Bay.
