Sr. Windows Server Engineer – Contractor

E-Plus assigned to Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) May 2018 – July 2020

Joined the life cycle project team and migrated end of life (EOL) servers and software from various TCH campuses to VM servers or physical servers (installed with Windows or Linux) located in Houston Data Foundry Datacenter.

Migrated Karl Storz servers from physical to VM servers and upgraded to Windows 2016. I worked closely with the vendor for a successful transition.

Discovered system architecture, inventory hardware/software and document the results. Closely worked with vendors to ensure their products were successfully integrated into the TCH environment. An example is to verify the proper ports have been opened or closed for proper operation.

I used PowerPoint, Visio, Excel, and Word to create Tier 1, 2 and 3 architect diagrams, data flow diagrams and presentations to be reviewed and approved by the iTAB (Information Technology Architecture Board) planning committee. Once approved, new servers provisioned, I setup monitoring, backup, SCCM/Bigfix clients and installed base applications dependent upon the server role.

I used vSphere, Linux, Windb, netstat, Active Directory, ILO, PowerShell, ExtraHop, Omi, Service Now, WireShark, among others.

Image configure and troubleshoot Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 for deployment in an industrial environment. Setup Wyse terminals with dual displays for remote desktop access to Windows 10 consoles. Used Rufus software to setup USB ISO images for deployment. Edited client-side firewalls for company compliance and standards during the test phase.

The Structure Group / Accenture, Houston, Texas 2001 – 2017

Install and maintain Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows Servers and Linux. Used an Active Directory multiple-server environment, which consisted of Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2016 and Linux. Maintained remote access through VPN connections. Support end user needs.

Documented and diagramed the network architecture along with the specification of devices attached to the network. Provided segment information (IP ranges, VLAN ranges) that made up the network.

The Structure Group was acquired by Accenture. In closing The Structure Group office, I was responsible for setting up Accenture Cloud Portal (ACP) and moving all relative data over to the cloud. This included Oracle and MS SQL databases, Linux Application Server, IIS Web Server, user data and coordinate with the security team on which ports needed to be opened.

Performed database backups on the SQL servers using SQL Management Studio and Oracle Server using Oracle Data Pump. Configured and maintained Cisco router and Cisco ASA Firewall.

Established SQL database consolidation and MS SQL Mail for alert notification. Maintain phone systems, adding new extensions as necessary and setting up video conferencing.

Purchased and maintained computer and network hardware for The Structure Group. Configured and imaged laptops with the necessary applications needed for the employee requirements. Supported users with software or hardware problems.

Performed penetration testing and security audits throughout the network environment using Linux and tools NMAP, Metasploit, Netcat, WireShark, Burp Suite, DirB, SQLMap, and many others.

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Decreased downtime and improved data integrity by installing fault-tolerance drives throughout the network. Added fault-tolerance network storage unit and re-mapped drives, which reduced the number of servers and cut downtime.

Assisted in setting up SharePoint which allowed employees and customers to better coordinate on projects and methodologies used during the lifecycle of their contract. This was instrumental in preventing errors and duplications during projects.
