Project Title : Studies on degradation of 2, 4, 6-trinitrotoluene using immobilized microbial in two supportive material: Comparative analysis on a laboratory scale Duration : December 2012 to May 2013
Summary : The studies were conducted on a lab scale bioreactor system and a shake-flask system, using samples of TNT with varying concentrations along with immobilized calcium alginate beads. Using immobilized microbes for the degradation of 2, 4, 6-trinitrotoluene shows 98% degradation of TNT in the bioreactor cycles whereas 93% degradation of TNT was obtained for the shake flasks studies. Moreover, in contrast to glass beads, immobilized calcium alginate beads are preferred as a good supportive media as it is more environment friendly, using a well-stirred bioreactor system due to limitation of shake flask system.

Summary : This study aimed to assess the existing monitoring methodology and trend analysis of Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM) from 2005-2011 in Delhi. The study also includes the monitoring of MSWM incompliance with MSW Rules, 2000. Methodological analysis carried out in 12 zones of MCD, 2 circles (South & North) of NDMC, the Delhi Cantonment Board, revealed that there are many shortcomings in the existing practices used in managing the MSW.
