The Effects of Bacteriophage M13 on Amyloid Plaques August 2016 – April 2017 Francis Marion University, Department of Biology, Florence, South Carolina. Conducted research on the effects of viral coat proteins from bacteriophage M13 on amyloid plaques like those found in patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Worked on expressing genetic material in host E. Coli cells and extracting/purifying the subsequent protein. Neurobiological Pathways of Empathy in Rats March 2015 – August 2016 Francis Marion University, Department of Biology, Florence South Carolina. Conducted research on altruistic behavior in rats. Directly monitored rat behaviors in a controlled environment and used immunohistochemistry to stain sectioned rat brains. This showed areas of neural activity two hours prior to harvesting.
