Using their history and physical exam to anticipate and manage pain, hemodynamics, PONV and other complications in the immediate post-operative period. -Working under the supervision of a Nurse Practitioner and a Medical Doctor to assess, diagnose and manage patients with chronic illnesses and exacerbations of those illnesses. Collecting HPI, ROS, physical exam and building differential diagnoses and treatment plans for acute illness. Initial assessment and reassessment of medication adherence and needs. Procedural skills acquired include, incision and drainage, suture removal, cyst aspiration, intra-articular joint injections, cryotherapy, x-ray interpretation and suturing. This clinical rotation provided a lot of autonomy and set high expectations for application of clinical knowledge, self-motivated research, note writing, advocating to insurance companies on behalf of patients and follow-up with medication and treatment compliance.
