Hobbies/Interests
I was a volunteer paramedic since 2004 and active in the fire service until deciding to continue my education further. During that time I held the office of ALS training officer, the preceptor program director and the IV Technician program director during that time as well for almost 3 years. I oversaw every Paramedic in the county and was in charge of making sure that all mandatory education was fulfilled. I taught for Essex Community College in their Paramedic Program from the fall semester of 2005 until approx 2015, when being in school made it difficult to continue. I was concurrently an ACLS instructor as well. I desire to get back into teaching now that my education is completed.
I chose to go back to school because I realized that I wanted to do more with my career. I enjoyed being a nurse, as you can see by my background I have had a strong medical background that actually goes back to 1998, where I was a GNA for the state of Maryland. I decided that being a nurse just wasn’t enough. I want to have more of an impact on my patient’s lives, in a more continuous way, and I feel that obtaining my Family Nurse Practitioner will allow that ongoing relationship that I desire, coupled with maintaining a level of health that they may not have had before. Fostering those close relationships and seeing patients with chronic conditions live a happier, fuller life is what drove me to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.
