PROJECT WORK / TRAINING
Analysis and design of an offshore wind turbine structure
Offshore wind parks promises to become an important source of energy in the near future. A wind turbine is considered offshore if the support if the support is subject to hydrodynamic loading. Monopiles are the popular foundation type for OWTs due to the simplicity of load application and definition for wind and wave loading.
Laterally loaded monopile foundations are typically designed using the p-y method developed by American Petroleum Institute (API). While towers are classified and manufactured typically by turbine rating, foundations must be uniquely designed for each wind farm due to their strong dependence on site characteristics. The analysis and design of the foundations of a large diameter offshore wind turbine using two different elements of the finite element software SAP2000 and the comparison of the results is carried out in the thesis work.
The behaviour of the offshore wind turbine has studied and the deformed shape of the structure under various types of loads such as permanent loads, variable functional loads, impact loads and environmental loads are checked. The type of foundation selected based on the depth of sea water. The monopile foundation is analyzed using two different finite element approaches and the results are compared. Monopile is analytically designed using IS 800:2007 and DNV-RP-C202 and verified that the foundation designed in the present work is safe.
Bidding process of a high rise building in a contracting company
Preparation of bidding documents requires a well planned and organized framework so that a competitive bid document is ultimately obtained. The bid preparation includes a careful study of general terms and conditions of contract provided by the owner in the tender document. The entire work was carried out as per detailed Bill of Quantity (BOQ). The quantities indicated in the BOQ were tentative and increased or decreased based on actual requirement of work. The bid preparation also included taking of copies and arranging the tender document and circulating to concerned departments, site visit and pre bidding meeting. Collecting cost of materials and labour at the location of site was done and cost estimates from external agencies were obtained.
Based on above mentioned factors a preliminary estimate for the whole project was prepared and rates were entered in the tender document. The documents required by the owner were prepared and attached and conditions of contract which bidder wanted to incorporate were added.
Inplant Training at Srigiri Consultants, Kochi from 05.09.2013 to 31.12.2013
