INDUSTRIAL TRAININGS AND VISITS:

SAMI LABS LIMITED KUNIGAL, TUMKUR: Underwent industrial training for 30 days. This is an export-oriented unit manufacturing various herbal medicine, pytonutrients and chemicals.

KARNATAKA MILK FEDERATION (K.M.F) DAIRY (TUMKUR BRANCH, NEAR GUBBI): I was exposed to various processes involved in the milk industry namely pasteurization of milk, drying, butter making, checking milk quality and I was given an insight about various parameters and optimum conditions that has to be maintained to get desired milk products. The dairy on average sells about 2000 liters of milk per day and few liters of milk related products.

HIEDELBERG CEMENT INDUSTRY (HAMSANDRA, NEAR TUMKUR): I was given insight about various unit operations and processes involved in the manufacture of cement and also was briefly explained about various equipment involved in cement manufacture and was also told about optimum conditions that has to be maintained inside the main reaction chamber called clinker. I understood the importance of various mechanical screens and crushers and also the importance of clarifier and filter in cement manufacture. I was also taught about various grades of cement and applications of each grades of cement in different sectors.

KALESHWARI VEGETABLE OIL REFINERY(TUMKUR): I also visited oil refinery plant in our home district and was exposed to various unit processes like hydrogenation, de-odorization and various unit operations like extraction, drying, adsorption and I was also informed about optimum pressure and temperature that has to be maintained in the hydrogenation process so that product does not get contaminated. Oil was imported and processed and sold. I was also taught how to monitor the various parameters in hydrogenation plant. Overall it was a great experience.

ACADEMIC RESEARCH:

De-fluoridation of water using different Adsorbents 1: Using TiO2 coated Aluminum nanoparticles

Nanoparticles are used to remove fluorine from water and its adsorbing properties were known by doing batch studies.200ml of standard fluoride solution was prepared and different dosage of adsorbents were allowed to interact with each 25ml of prepared standard solutions. Various parameters like adsorbent Dosage, temperature, pressure, pH was varied and percentage removal of fluorine for each case was evaluated. The maximum percentage removal of fluorine was 40% at pH of 6.8 and at room temperature. We are still in search for better adsorbents capable of increasing percentage removal. 2: Synthesis of nanoparticles and nanocomposites and comparative study of defluoridation of water

Various nanoparticles were synthesis using eco-friendly green method where plant leaves are used as source. The nanoparticles were combined with graphene oxide to form nanocomposites. The synthesized nanoparticles and nanocomposites were used as adsorbents to remove fluorine from water. Comparative study was made and various parameters effecting adsorption and mechanism behind adsorption were also studied.
