Projects
Interqualifying Project: Improved writing skills and learned about different cultures when writing a research based report involving the changing trends of the baby-boomer generation at Lunch Clubs in London, England.
Major Qualifying Project: Senior level project involving major related topics where I achieved valuable skills in research writing, growing yeast cells, and studying the data collected using equipment in the lab. My team of 3 students used the yeast Xanthophyllomyces Dendrorhous and specifically looked into the secondary metabolites produced by the yeast studied using different stress analysis tests. We achieved these results by using different temperatures as well as UV light and hydrogen peroxide as the stressors. Results were found by running the cultures through an HLPC to determine what metabolites were produced.
Enzyme Project: As a team we took a close look at the Barnase enzyme and studied its secondary structure as well as catalytic strategies. We also studied how the amino acid sequence plays a role in its function and what role each amino acid plays during catalysis.
Titan Missile Silo Project: Simulated the titan missile accident and ran calculations on the actual rates of hydrazine released as well as total concentration at the time of explosion. Analyzed how the accident could have been avoided as well as steps taken to reduce future accidents.
Reaction Equilibrium Project Determined the best process for producing ethanol from water and ethylene. This was achieved by developing a process flow system including flow rates and reaction rates.
SKILLS
Computer: Solidworks, AutoCAD, Spectroscopy, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Protein Folding Software, and Matlab language software.
Laboratory: Certified in Hazardous Waste, Biosafety Awareness, Chemical Fume Hood Safety, Chemical Hygiene, and Laboratory General Safety. Familiar with Centrifuging, Pipetting, Cell Culturing, Pig Dissection, Making Solutions and Dilutions, Titration, Spectroscopy, Distillation, Acid/Base reactions, Staining, Chromatography, Oxidation/Reduction, and Grignard reactions.
Activities: American Institute of Chemical Engineers, WPI Club Hockey, WPI Club Soccer, WPI Club Ultimate Frisbee
