Responsibilities (Mainframe Storage)

Provide 24x7x365 storage support for Production jobs, workgroups, and projects.

Provision storage, proactively monitor storage pools and key volumes.

Perform disk and tape migrations as needed for new hardware

Isolate and solve storage related problems as needed.

Manage SMS by building and modifying base configurations and ACS routines as needed. Familiar with RLS (VSAMRLS) cache structures.

Manage Catalogs and VOLCATS/TMDB (run diagnostics, fix problems, define/reorg Catalogs and Aliases, Volume Entries, fix VVDS and VTOC errors, etc.). RLS conversions.

Manage data life-cycles.

Evaluate new technologies and design new storage solutions for projects and major upgrades.

Install and maintain Storage System Software as needed and to support O/S upgrades.

Design and maintain backup, archiving, reporting and miscellaneous storage batch jobs.

Disaster Recovery: Design and maintain jobs, REXX execs, ISPF Dialogs, work libraries and procedures and participate in all Disaster Recovery exercises.

Provide support for tape technologies: STK 9310’s (Powderhorn robotic tape library with media types 3490/9490 and 3590/9840), the STK VSM 3 and the IBM TS3500/TS4500/TS7700 tape libraries.

Manage CA-1 / RMM by keeping software current, building new tape ranges, defining, extending and maintaining the TMC/RMM CDS, and by using utilities for maintenance and reporting. CA-1 TMC and RMM CDS reorgs and re-sizing.

Preform data migrations as needed (DASD and Tape).

Prepare for and participate in Audits (backup audits of Production data as mandated).

Participate in Incident reporting and tracking.

Provide SMF/RMF/CMF data collections for vendors as needed (mainly for device and channel utilization statistics).

Maintain and run EREP reports (device reports for vendors).

SME: CA-1, CA-Disk, ExLM, FDR, HSC/ELS, DR Manager, TDMF and Time Finder. SRDF and other storage related software.

TDMF Work Experience

Single LPARS and LPARS within a SYSPLEX: Installed, setup (Product files/STCs, COMMS files and REXX libraries for the ISPF panels-monitor) and ran TDMF jobs to migrate disk devices (DASD) from: IBM RAMAC to STK SVA, SVA to SVA, SVA to EMC/DMX, DMX to STK V2X, and V2X/DMX to EMC VMAX storage arrays. Installed software, initialized the new target devices/UCBs, used EXCEL to build migration commands for each device (source Volser to target Volser), and built and ran batch jobs to perform the migration. Used the TDMF monitor to follow the migration progress of each device.

EDUCATION

Studied Computer Science at Bellevue Community College.

Certificates in SMS, SMP/E, CA-1 and CA-7, REXX programming, and ISPF.
