Duties:
-- I am responsible for clinical time in the office where I see and manage adult and pediatric patients with orthopaedic problems. I manage new problems, follow up problems, post-operative follow-up’s, pre-operative H&P’s, and urgent care visits. I perform procedures including joint injections, casting/splinting, I&D, wound care, reduction of simple displaced fractures and joint dislocations within my ability. I work in close consultation with the orthopaedic surgeons in the office for complex situations as needed.
--I also am responsible for inpatient rounding at Maria Parham Medical Center as needed. I am responsible for the management of inpatient adult orthopaedic surgery patients, as well as, evaluation of ED patients. I obtain admission history and physicals, enter laboratory, radiology, medication and nursing care orders, facilitate hospital admissions and discharge planning. I am in direct consultation with the attending orthopaedic surgeon as needed. I work closely with all medical staff involved with the patient. This includes medical teams, infectious disease team and case management. I perform procedures such as fracture reduction, casting/splinting, joint injections, bedside I&D, wound care within the hospital setting.

--I spent half of my clinical time in the office where I saw and managed adult and pediatric patients with orthopaedic problems. I performed procedures including joint injections, limited ultrasound for anatomical assessment, casting/splinting, I&D, wound care, reduction of displaced fractures and joint dislocations within my ability. I completed fracture liason training and am certified in clinical densiometry. I follow patients from inpatient fracture care through to the osteoporosis clinic as well as internal and external referrals. I order and interpret DXA scans within the office and manage all types of osteoporosis medications, including injections.

Duties:
--I was responsible for the health records of approximately 1400 high school students. I reviewed all medical forms at the beginning of each school year and assess for any special health needs that a student may have. I documented all health problems, discussed with parents and health care providers the health issue and then created and individualized health care plan for each medical problem. I then executed the IHCP during the entire school year. I participated in IEP and 504 meetings for all students with related health problems. I disseminated the IHCP to all school personnel who have a need to know. I educated all involved staff on the health condition of the student and teach any emergency procedures that may be needed. This might have included inhaler use or Epi-Pen administration. I was responsible for all health and safety related teaching that is needed for all staff in the school. I was the lead provider in the Medical Emergency Response Team within the building. General duties included: medication administration, performing any medical procedures, blood glucose, seizure, allergy and asthma monitoring, monitoring for communicable diseases, notifying the health department of any reportable illnesses, collaborating with the health department if a communicable disease is discovered to ensure a safe environment for the rest of the school, education and resource facilitator for STD’s, pregnancy, drug or alcohol abuse, physical or mental abuse, diagnose and refer for treatment as needed. I was a community liason for school health and served as a representative at community health fairs and committees. I was the sponsor of the American Red Cross Club and serve of the Prince George County Allergy Task Force.

I set up, removed or adjusted skeletal and buck’s traction. I removed and assisted with placement of casts. I performed or assisted the physician to perform extensive wound care including wound vac changes. I served as an orthopaedic surgery liason throughout the hospital and educated other teams on orthopaedic issues as needed.

--I taught the clinical rotation for Nursing 325. I instructed a group of nursing students in their adult health rotation. I made patient assignments for each student to ensure a well- rounded experience. I taught clinical skills such as assessment, medication administration, IV placement and administration, NG tube placement, traction care, cast care, wound care. I assisted with and graded the students’ care plan that was assigned.
I also taught Health Assessment. This class took place in the state of the art VCU School of Nursing simulation laboratory. I was able to teach all aspects of head-to-toe health assessment with up to date equipment and simulators.

Duties:
--I was responsible for physical assessment, management and follow up of patients with acute post-surgical pain that was being treated with medication via epidural, spinal or nerve block catheters. I assembled and initiated epidural/spinal or nerve catheter pumps. I monitored pain scores according to protocol and adjusted medication settings as needed. I collaborated with the anesthesiologist if pain scores did not improve or if the patient’s medical situation changed. I collaborated with the attending surgeon as needed related to pain management. I assessed for any complications that may be related to the epidural/spinal or nerve catheter. Examples would include epidural headache, catheter migration, site infections or diaphragm paralysis. I served as a resource to all hospital staff for the management of patients with chronic pain to facilitate discharge from the hospital. I was the manager of the pain service RN staff and was responsible for scheduling, evaluation, and education. I served as pain/epidural educator for the hospital and was the acute pain representative on many hospital committees. I gave in-services to all of the hospital units with the highest volume of patients with epidural/spinal or nerve catheters.

--I performed all duties required for an adult cardiac catheterization
procedure including monitor, scrub and circulator. As the RN assigned to monitor and/or circulate, I was responsible for hemodynamic monitoring, conscious sedation, pain management and ACLS. I assisted anesthesia staff with monitoring of patients under general anesthesia. I was responsible to set up all procedure and intervention related equipment such as, angioplasty, coronary stenting, balloon pump and defibrillator. I started IV’s, prepared and administered all medications needed during the procedure. I defibrillated and performed CPR on patients as needed during the procedure. As the RN assigned to scrub I prepared the lab and the patient for the procedure using sterile technique. I set up all needed equipment on the procedure table according to the needs of the physician. In addition, I performed all duties required for pediatric cardiac catheterization including hemodynamic monitoring, conscious sedation, pain management and PALS. I also, performed all duties required for electrophysiology procedures. I was trained to manage the daily operation of 4 catheterization labs as charge RN. I functioned as preceptor and educator for new staff.
