PROFILE

I am Alexander J. Chiera. I am a 24 year old graduating senior at the University At Albany. My studies have included a far reaching range in the biological sciences all the way from cell biology to neuroscience. I plan on matriculating into medical college in the Fall of 2021. I am a determined and focused individual who is an aspiring a medical student. I know that with my experience, excellent communication skills, willingness to spread love and to accept knowledge that I will one day be an excellent physician. EXPERIENCE

Albany Medical Center; Albany, New York — 2018-Present After completing my undergraduate education, I joined the plastic surgery department at Albany Medical Center. Here, I was given the opportunity to stand side by side with some of the leaders in the field of plastic surgery during their surgical cases. This gave me invaluable experience in over 100 different cases from bilateral orbital floor reconstruction to omentum free flap with microsurgery anastomosis . As well as developing relationships with the the attending physicians, I was mentored by many of the residents on the team as well. Furthermore, I developed bonds and connections with many of the medical students who were also in the OR. They gave me critical advice and steering as to what worked for them and made them successful in medical school. Additionally, I followed physicians in a clinical setting and assisted the team in their research. St. Peters Hospital; Albany, New York — 2018-Present I joined St. Peter’s hospital in the fall of 2018. As a scribe in the Emergency department I got to experience the interworking of Emergency Medicine in one the highest acuity Emergency Departments in the capital region. As I scribe I was given the opportunity to learn the language physicians use on a daily basis. Further, I became more concise in how to describe patient sequela. This role provided me with advantageous and helpful knowledge as I begin my career in helping to save lives. I was given the opportunity to mentor new hires and to take on a leadership role within the Emergency Department. Teaching my fellow colleagues and helping to stimulate intellectual growth provided me tremendous satisfaction.

K Plastic Surgery; Latham, New York — 2017-2018

In a six month period of time I had spent over thirty days in the operating room observing more than 40 different plastic surgeries. Over half of those procedures involve surgeries using general anesthesia while the other procedures involved local anesthesia. Procedures observed range from abdominoplasties with flank liposuction to bilateral breast augmentations.

Patient Care Technician, Rondout Valley Prompt Care; Stone Ridge, New York — 2017-2018

As a patient care technician, I was responsible for checking patients in to the urgent care upon arrival, as well as documenting all of their medical and insurance information into our computer network system. Part of my role as a patient care technician included assisting patients with basic care like aiding them in using the restroom and changing the bedding in the observation units.

Engineer, New York Precast; Kingston, New York — 2014-2016 As an engineer for New York Precast, I was responsible for inputing changes to structural drawings on a computer aided design and drafting software program. This job required exceptional mathematical skills and to be technologically inclined. Sales Manager, Color Blend Automotive; Kingston New York — 2012-2016 As sales manager, I was responsible for the finalization of all sales and delivery of vehicle. This job required great interpersonal skills and helped me become confident when talking to new people.
