OFFICE/COMMERCIAL
Owner: CBL & Associates Properties
Location: Greensboro, NC
This was a multi-faceted project with the ultimate goal of accommodating a CommunityOne Bank branch in an existing Class B office building. The existing building exterior consisted of exposed aggregate precast panels and red brick typical of 1970s-era architecture. In order to modernize and re-brand the building facade, our team applied EFIS cladding to the upper parapet and painted the brick a dark grey. A dual-lane drive through utilizing vacuum tubes and video displays was added in the center of the parking lot, which we also repaved and reconfigured. After relocating the previous tenants, four existing suites were combined and the space for the new CommunityOne Bank branch was built out with Class B+ finishes.
(2012-2013) CONVATEC
INDUSTRIAL
Owner
ConvaTec
Location
Greensboro, NC
Since 2012, D.H. Griffin Construction has been involved in numerous design-build projects for ConvaTec, a global medical products and technologies company, at one of its manufacturing sites in Greensboro, NC. The first project completed was a renovation to the facility’s front entrance, visitor center, reception lobby, and training room. After stellar performance on this project, DHGC was once again retained to complete a pilot laboratory. Work on this project, and several subsequent projects, was completed on an accelerated schedule in ConvaTec’s 24/7 operating environment, often requiring multiple shifts to be completed.
One of the more complex projects D.H. Griffin has completed for ConvaTec was the lowering of nearly 18,000 SF of ceiling above an active manufacturing area. Our team salvaged the existing ceiling grid and most ceiling tiles for later reinstallation, while installing recessed lighting and completely reconfiguring life safety and HVAC systems. Manufacturing operations were uninhibited throughout construction.
Our team has also completed two projects for this owner where all construction work occurred during a small three-week shutdown window coinciding with the holiday season. The first was the renovation of an 11,000 SF Class 100,000 clean room. As a result of the renovation, new FRP walls and finishes were provided and ceilings repaired. The resultant project passed its clean room test on the first inspection. Also completed in only three weeks, our team upgraded the facility’s 3,200 SF cafeteria; including new flooring, lighting, ceiling tile, millwork, serving line, and cooking and refrigeration equipment.

Work included a new: roof, windows, ceilings, carpet, paint, entry with canopy, elevator, parking, and ADA accommodations. A portion of the building serves as a campus for GTCC. This project was very much time and budget critical, requiring our team to meet an aggressive schedule in order for our client to take advantage of grant monies with expiration dates.
