Project: ATLAS (AI/ML based Real Time Fraud Detection System)

Before ATLAS all Fraud Rules were static in RTRA and based on Transaction attributes or Consumer Aggregated History. Due to sophisticated nature of Fraud, the static rules cannot be modified fast enough to detect new fraud patterns. We have hundreds of hard coded rules and still fraud is possible. The new self/assisted learning statistical Model allowed automated and frequent updates.

Predictive modeling is a process that uses machine learning and probability to forecast outcomes. The model is made up of number of predictors, which are Factors that are likely to influence future results.

Implemented a module called Unified Computer Engine to compute 1000’s of factors in real time, which does aggregation on history records of entities.

Integrated UCE in Spring boot application and deployed same on EC2.

Configure Kinesis stream and produced messages(transactions) in near real time.

Implement Lambda using SAM framework to listen/consume kinesis stream and persist messages in AWS Arura DB.

Implement Spark Job and deployed same on EMR to compute factors for larger entities in offline mode.

Integrate Third party Model execution technique (Open Scoring) to execute models, built by data scientists using AI/ML and to predict real time scores for entities such as Consumers, Agents etc.

Implement custom health checks for application and have worked with AWS Infra team to configure ELB’s and API gateway.

Implement a client-side generic framework to consume these services.

Work with data scientists to use data generated by application which helped them train models efficiently.

Project: ATLAS (Data Pipeline for Data Science Environment)

Implemented Spark Job and deployed same on EMR to compute factors for larger entities in offline mode.

Setup Airflow and create DAG’s to process data and store in snowflake on demand.

Created Airflow DAG with steps to detect size of Large data sets and create EMR of appropriate sizes intelligently to compute complex factors and store in S3.

Read S3 result files and store back in snowflake for model trainings and in Arura DB for Real Time service lookup.

Setup DMS, with initial loads and continuous replications tasks from On-Prem to AWS. Heterogeneous: DB2=>AWS Arura Mysql.

RTRA-Real Time Risk Assessment (Anti-Money Laundering System)

RTRA-Real Time Risk Assessment (Anti-Money Laundering System).

RTRA is a control system which is rule driven, agile and real time. RTRA monitor’s risks associated for each money transfer, report the risks, and prevent agents from committing fraud on behalf of consumers.

RTRA application will mainly assign risk related to all the transactions based on different regulatory rules configured. Rules are country specific. WU provide support to more than 200 countries around the world at this point and almost 100% transactions flow through RTRA.

R2-Performance Optimization and Benchmarking

WU Digital R2 System is a next generation upgradation of the current WU Digital R1 System and the stakeholders of the project needed confidence that this new system they have architected, and the underlying hardware and software, would deliver the performance, scalability and reliability required of them. In order to provide confidence and comfort to the stakeholders, Western Union undertaken this performance tuning project that encompassed a series of testing/tuning cycle to identify and reduce the bottlenecks so as to get the optimal performance and scalability to achieve the required numbers.

The performances of the current R1 application in actual live conditions were studied and the tests were designed in line with the requirements. During this we studied the profile of the application, hardware configurations used, test methodology/topology, performance tests conducted, the tunings done, the actual performances observed, and the results. This activity has involved finding out processing time of each components right from BigIP/F5 till core backend systems and tuning various servers, components to support/leverage existing software/hardware. During which we used performance improvement tools like Compuware Dynatrace,Jconsole,Gomez and Load generating tools like HP load runner for generating to meet average and peak load TPS requirements and IBM support assistance tool to see memory utilization using gc files and Websphere console to study CPU utilization using tpv files. Taking Heap Dumps and analysing the same to find out Hot Spots in the application. Also prepared SAR reports to evaluate health of boxes where application was deployed.
