Academic Projects:

Worked and completed the project 'Safety switch for lathe machine' during the 3rd year of diploma in mechanical engineering.

Description: Beginner lathe operators may forget to remove the chuck key from the chuck after tightening the job between the jaws, this could lead to accidents. To prevent such mishaps, we designed and manufactured a safety switch with a circuit breaker which was connected between the lathe drive motor and the main power supply. The lathe machine won’t start unless the chuck key is placed inside the cavity present on the surface of the switch, which in turn will close the circuit. We made 4 additional such switches and installed them in the college workshop.

Completed the project 'Experimental investigation of damping characteristics of sandwich plates with viscoelastic core' during the fourth year of B.E. Description: Experimental analysis of 9 plates i.e. 3 types of visco-elastic core

(Neoprene, Nitrile, Acrylic) with 3 different core thicknesses (1.5mm, 3mm, 4.5mm) sandwiched between 2 aluminum plates of thickness 1mm each. Experimental analysis was performed on a FFT analyzer to find out the natural frequency of the plates in order to study their damping properties. Then the results were computationally validated by modal analysis using ANSYS. The scope of the project was to study and identify commonly available visco-elastic sandwich combinations that can be used to reduce vibrations without hampering the overall strength of the plate.
