SUMMARY

Tanmay Joshi is an Engineering student pursuing his Final Year Engineering in Mechanical at M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Engineering Bangalore. M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology (RIT), is an autonomous private engineering college located in Bangalore, Karnataka and is affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University ( VTU).

Tanmay has completed 7 semesters and on the way to complete his 8th Semester shortly by October’20. In his previous semesters along with the key foundational engineering subjects, he has specialised in the following key Subjects Viz.. a. Mechatronics, b. Robotics,, d. Machine Design using solid edge ST9 version V20.

Tanmay is also a very active member of the college and is qualified through a competitive test to join his college Automobile Club. Tanmay is member of SAE (Society Of Automotive Engineering ) and has participated in several workshops and seminars conducted by General Motors representing SAE in his university campus.

Tanmay during his engineering academics took up a summer Internship assignment at Fiat Automobile India Ltd manufacturing facility at Ranjangoan, Maharashtra State in India. In his summer internship at FCA India, he worked in various departments in the Jeep manufacturing plant. Work involved interacting and learning functions within the assembly lines and the quality control departments. Learnings included the plant maintenance techniques and gained exposure to the ERP systems and use of robotics technology on their Vehicle assembly lines. Internship at Fiat India also involved small projects to understand feasibility and identify opportunities for cost reduction and put a proposal and present to the functional heads the areas of cost reductions along with the technical feasibility and commercial savings. There were 3 such key areas Tanmay worked on ; viz. (a) Removal of rear door flag NVH absorber; (b) Proposal of hush panel aesthetic layer replacement with lower GSM material; (c) Proposal of IP end cap felt tape removal. These projects resulted in significant $ savings.

Tanmay as a part of his 3rd year academic initiatives undertook two Engineering projects, Project 1* “ Floating waste collector vessel ”, Project 2* “Rally cart building, a 4X4 off roading buggy with engine specifications complying to 800CC with 40BHP power. Tanmay is leading a team of student members to compete at “ RCDC ” Rally car Design Challenge 2019 ( http://rcdcindia.com/about/) organised at the national level by RDC India. The main aim of RCDC is to train students about how the automobile industry works so teams will have to work and function like an automotive company.

Tanmay is a very keen automotive enthusiast and takes interest in updating himself on the technologies and the technical specifications of the vehicles launched in the market by the leading Bachelor of Engineering “Mechanical”, Visvesvaraya Technological University ( VTU), Bangalore, India.

world-class manufacturers. He also takes interest to make a point of view on the technology comparisons across various models and the manufacturers. Workshops, projects and Seminars Participated

1. Workshop for Design, build and program a Quad Copter conducted by IIT Kharagpur.

Introduction and designing principles of the multirotor aerial vehicles. Stability and control with the help of accelerometers and gyroscopes was explained. Hands on experience on DC motors and Electronic Speed Controllers. 2. Seminar organised by General motors on REEV “ Range extended electric vehicles”

Seminar providing an overview on a competition organised by SAE which is put together by General Motors and TVS. Some of the topics covered under the seminar were, focused on battery selection, quantitative estimation, battery connections, and cooling systems.

3. Industry & Academy collaboration: Introduction to SAE organisation by the Chairman SAE Bangalore chapter.

4. Project 1* : Project scope includes, designing and fabricating a floating waste collector operating in water bodies like lakes and ponds to clear the floating debris. The technology used for functioning of the vessel was designed using a Arduino UNO controller with Bluetooth module controlled by a mobile application. Vessel was powered using a 12 V 300 RPM Johnson motor catering to a payload of 5 kgs as a scaled down model. The future scope of enhancement of this project would be making the vessel solar powered and AI enabled to manoeuvre the vessel with no human intervention and collect the key data points to track the efficiency of the vessel.

5. Project 2* : RCDC Challenge ; National level engineering student competition, involves cart design, build and race the vehicle at RCDC event. RCDC is a engineering design challenge at a national platform where engineering meets motorsports. It’s India's first desert rally for engineering students.
