First Assistant Cardiac Surgery/ Acute Care Nurse Practitioner/ Doctorate of Nursing Practice

Responsible for first assisting in all cardiac and thoracic surgical cases. Duties include vein harvesting, and radial artery harvesting abilities (both open and endoscopic). Duties also include wound closure and suturing skills. Nursing assignments and in-servicing on new products and equipment. Introducing new evidence based practice into the cardio-thoracic service line. And educator for new procedures, such as the endovascular stenting and percutaneous valves, from 1999 to 2014.

ACNP responsibilities management of all post-operative cardio-thoracic patients’ CVR and PCU, coordination of care with other members of the health care team, and nursing education. Current cardio-thoracic surgeons include, Dr. Michael Murphy, Dr. Nick Kouchoukos, Dr. James Scharff, Dr. Josh Baker and Dr. Michael Mauney.
