At SKIMS, I was involved in teaching programs for Surgery Residency trainees. It involves both formal and informal teaching. The former consists of lectures, seminars, tutorials, journal clubs and case discussions & the latter includes intra-operative teaching of procedures in theatres.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Three years research thesis experience on ‘Analysis of efficacy of free omental graft in preventing anastomotic leakage after surgery for esophageal carcinoma’ at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar, J&K, India - (May 2007 to May 2010).

Three years research thesis experience on ‘Evaluation of two stage flexor tendon reconstruction in Hand ’ in Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar, J&K, India (Aug. 2011 to July 2014).

NATURE OF WORK

1)Academic responsibilities: undergraduate and postgraduate theory and clinical teaching on rounds, classes, seminars and workshops.

2)Outpatient clinics management: approximately 150 patients report to outpatient clinic every week for consultation. Patients are admitted for management and a protocol is followed.

3)As primary surgeon in elective surgery, I am primarily involved in approximately 8 to 15 surgeries in a week and have performed more than 100 Surgeries independently in this year. Surgeries include mainly reconstructive, Aesthetic, Body contouring, Hand cases, Micro-vascular, congenital anomalies (like cleft lip/palate), Burns and post traumatic injuries.

4)On-call for emergencies - Emergencies usually include maxillofacial trauma, Hand and limb injuries including Replantations and revascularizations and Burns.

SUMMARY OF OVERALL OPERATIVE EXPERIENCE

I have been exposed and trained in almost all subspecialties of plastic and reconstructive surgery, including Aesthetic & Reconstructive surgeries, skin grafting, flap coverage, Body contouring surgeries, Micro-vascular surgical procedures, Burns, Revascularization and Replantation.

Reconstruction of various post-traumatic, post-burn and other acquired deformities.

Reconstruction of facial defects including reconstruction of auricle, nose, lips etc.

Hand surgeries including management of congenital disorders, trauma, revascularization and replantation procedures, and tendon transfers.

Operative treatment of nerve injuries including nerve repairs, nerve grafting and nerve transfers.

Oncological procedures including Skin Malignancies, Head & Neck tumors and their Reconstructions, breast reconstruction.
