Trauma Inpatient: Worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide care to acute trauma patients. Patients varied in age and often had complex co-morbidities. Common diagnoses included traumatic brain injury, multiple fractures and solid organ injuries. Responsibilities included tertiary exams, daily rounding and presentations, creating and implementing treatment plans, minor procedures such as wound care, dressing changes and suturing.
Naval Medical Center, San Diego (153 hours)
Comprehensive Combat & Complex Casualty Care Department (C5), Primary Care, TBI Clinic: Provided primary care to complex, traumatically injured service members. Common injuries included traumatic brain injuries, multiple fractures, traumatic limb amputations and PTSD. Care included managing complex injuries, post-operative complications, mental health disorders, primary care issues and episodic health concerns such as upper respiratory infections and sexually transmitted infections.
Veterans Affairs Medical Center, San Diego (205 hours)
Primary Care: Provided comprehensive primary care for two consecutive semesters to a diverse population of veterans with complex co-morbidities to include but not limited to heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, mental health and women’s health concerns. Care included screening, preventative care, lifestyle interventions, patient education and appropriate medical interventions.
