Hello,

My name is Shashank Mohankumar and I am a Second-year master’s student at the EECS department at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Although my undergraduate degree was in Electronics and communications, I have always been interested in computer science which led me to take courses Data structures and Algorithms, Operating Systems, and computer Networks as electives towards my bachelor’s degree. It wasn’t until my first semester in my master’s degree that I realized I wanted to work as a software engineer after I graduate.

During my master’s degree I have taken quite a few undergrad CSE courses at Michigan in order to bolster my fundamental knowledge of the subject. I have taken courses such as Database Management systems, Computer Networks, and Programming languages while having also audited other courses such as Web Systems and Operating systems. I have also registered for courses that count towards my program major of communication such as Probability and Random Processes, Digital Communication Systems, Communication Networks and Machine Learning.

With my passion for computer science and its applications I have worked on side projects in my own time such as full stack applications, Algorithms visualization projects and recently IOS app development projects. I feel that these projects being done outside of my academic requirement are indicative of my passion and desire to work in the field of software engineering. I believe I possess the most critical skill required to succeed as a software engineer, which is the ability to learn new technologies and stacks relatively fast.
