PROJECT UNDERTAKE

Thermal Analysis of Airfoil Turbine Blade and it’s Intercooling: In this project an attempt has been made to computationally analyze intercooling effects of airfoil profile of turbine blade using Inconel718 and simulating the smooth and ribbed turbulated flow in Ansys Fluent. The trends of different parameters like heat transfer coefficient, Nusselt number, skin friction coefficient were also noted. It was observed that ribbed channel enhanced the heat transfer and the cooling effects increases with increasing mass flow rate but due to increase in pressure losses it is not feasible to have high mass flow rates for cooling of turbine blades.

Modelling and Analysis of Circular and Rectangular Fins: The project was based on the geometric configuration analysis for circular and rectangular fins, used in heat sinks to cool electronic systems. The task was to find the heat transfer rate through fins. Circular and rectangular fins of different dimensions of different aluminium alloys were designed and analyzed under different temperature and convection conditions. The conclusion was that rectangular fins of aluminium had

higher heat transfer rate with negligible dependency on dimensions.
