Experience
2016 – Albemarle Corp – Lithium Chemical Plant – Kings Mountain, NC
Position as Maintenance Electrical Engineer. Responsible for maintaining the electrical power distribution 12.47KV, motor controls, and lighting, instrumentation, and controls. Controls includes ICS (Industrial Control System) network, SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems) and multiple Allen Bradley PLC’s and HMI’s, and Delta V DCS. ICS network system with Ethernet, devicenet and Controlnet. This plant processes Lithium Hydroxide and Lithium metal for the battery industry. Work also includes project work such as upgrading fire alarm system and upgrading a catastrophic failed drum lift machine. Work includes updating and maintaining instrument calibrations and electrical standards. Working with Pi Vision OSI soft database system
2016 – 2016 M3 Engineering – Charlotte, NC
Worked 6-month field project startup for a new Halle – OceanaGold mine and processing plant in Kershaw SC. Responsible for scope, procurement interface construction management and startup of 12.47KV overhead power distribution. Responsible for Modicon PLC’s, Wonderware HMI startup including Siemens MCC’s and Allen Bradley AC drives.
1996 – 2016 Unimin Corp – Mining Company – Cornelius, NC
Position is a senior corporate project manager, responsible for electrical PLC and MMI control. Responsibilities also include work on power distribution system, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, instrumentation, design, and integration and installation specifications, contractor bid packages and field startups. Projects range from $250k to $225M. I have worked extensively with Allen Bradley MCC's, AC powerflex drives, and Controllogix PLC's. I also worked extensively with Wonderware MMI. Largest project is a new $225M Greenfield Frac Sand Mine and processing plant with a $36M electrical budget. I was responsible for all the electrical from Power, controls and instrumentation for complete new plant. Some of the systems were a $50M tailings waste treatment facility with thickeners, filter presses, vacuum belts and conveying systems. Systems included two new 50MBTU burner fluid bed dryers. Also, complete wet process, rail and truck loadout and screening facilities. As the electrical project engineer, my responsibilities include power equipment specifications, electrical power, process and controls design, PLC and Wonderware integration, electrical contractor bid packages and contractor management on site, and startup and checkout at site.
1995-1996 – Proctor and Schwartz – Dryer Manufacturer– Lexington, NC
Electrical Engineering Manager – I was responsible for the manufacturing electrical design team. The team included electrical engineer, designer/programmer and drafter. Design included commercial dryer system and burner systems.
1993-1995 – Perigon Engineers – Engineering firm – Matthews, NC
Electrical Engineer – my responsibilities were completing design and startup for projects for several industries such as chemical (Hoechst Celanese), metals (Alcoa Aluminum), and the fibers industries.
1991-1993 – Joy Energy – Incinerator Manufacturer - Charlotte, NC
Electrical Engineer – As an electrical design engineer, my responsibilities were designing control systems for combustion systems. We manufactured incinerators for toxic waste and incinerators for fluid-bed for waste water treatment facilities. I was also responsible for the installation and startup of the systems.
1989-1991 Day-Dupont Engineering- Engineering firm – Charlotte, NC
Electrical Engineer – We were a design house for Dupont fibers facilities. I had projects with several plants that included a new Kevlar line and work on a Nomex line.
1988-1989 – Clark, Tribble, Harris and Lee – Architectural firm– Charlotte, NC
Electrical Engineer – I was responsible for designing commercial building electrical systems including power, lighting, security, and fire systems.
1985-1988 – Lockwood Greene – Engineering firm – Spartanburg, SC
Electrical Engineer – I had several responsibilities ranging from PLC programmer, design engineer, and startup engineer. I worked on several Anheuser Busch facilities for installation of new PLC controls.
1982-1985 – Goodyear Atomic – Uranium Enrichment facility (DOE Contractor) – Piketon, OH
Electrical Engineer – I was a facility Electrical Engineer for a new Uranium Centrifuge Enrichment facility. I required a DOE Q clearance for this position. This was a new facility that was brought online in 1984. I worked as an electrical plant engineer to completed electrical and control systems checkout, maintenance and operator training, and operations support.
Education
1982 – Ohio Northern University – Ada, OH
