I worked 12 hour day shifts every weekend, mainly with elderly patients, gave medications, did dressing changes, gave nebulizer treatments, changed gastric tubes as needed, started IV’s, flushed IV’s, hung IV drips and IVPB, assessed patients as needed, called physicians to obtain new orders when needed, gave education to patients and families, catheter/ostomy care, and obtained urine, fecal, blood, and other laboratory specimens as needed.

I completed 125 hours in this pediatric clinic. I saw patients from newborn to 18 years of age from all different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. I observed, learned, and treated patients along with my preceptor. I worked with patients with various acute and long-term illnesses, diseases, and injuries and treated patients accordingly. I completed head to toe assessments including auscultating heart, lung, and gastrointestinal sounds, palpated the abdomen, checked pupil reflex, EOMs, and reflexes, as well as conducting routine school physical exams. I did focused assessments according to chief complaint. I assessed patients on my own and would come up with a diagnosis, treatment plan, and education for the patient. I would discuss my assessment, diagnosis, and plan with my preceptor prior to treating the patient. My preceptor would always see the patient and do her own assessment as well to verify my findings were correct and we would discuss each case after. I completed cases studies on several patients using subjective, objective, assessment, and plan method of documentation. I completed 100 hours in this OBGYN clinic. I saw patients from onset of menarche to end of life with most patients seen during their reproductive years. Patients seen in this clinic were from all different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. I observed, learned, and treated patients along with my preceptor. I would work up the patient, obtain history and physical exam, and would discuss findings and assessment with my preceptor to come up with a treatment plan. I assessed and treated many pregnant patients throughout their pregnancy at all different stages. I saw patients for initial visits, ongoing visits, and follow up visits. I assessed and came up with a diagnosis, treatment plan, and education for the patient and would discuss findings and plan along with my preceptor prior to treating the patient. I observed many procedures during this rotation including contraceptive implants with the physicians in this clinic as well as observing a caesarean section. I did breast exams, pelvic exams, used a fetal doppler to listen to fetal heart tones, tested patients for sexually transmitted infections, tested urine for urinary tract infections, did pregnancy tests, used the microscope to look for clue cells, and more during this rotation. I completed 150 hours in this orthopaedic specialty clinic. I assessed and treated patients with all different types of ortho related illnesses and injuries including age-related diseases processes and acute and long-term injuries. Injuries and illnesses included fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains, cervical and spinal radiculopathy, osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, ligament injuries, bursitis, muscle pain, joint pain, osteoporosis, and more. During this rotation I observed many joint injections and performed joint injections with my preceptor along side of me. I assessed and treated a diverse population group of patients from the ages of 3 years to the elderly population from all different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Patients were seen for routine comprehensive exams, focuses exams based on chief complaint, and follow up visits with all different types of illnesses and injuries including diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, gastrointestinal problems, musculoskeletal complaints and injuries, cold and flu symptoms, psychiatric disorders, and more.
