Tomorrow Water: Data Analyst Intern Jan.2019-Current
• Collected sensor data remotely via VNC and data logger, cleaned, and combined data by using Python multiple libs.
• Data visualization by Power BI with multiple data sources and Excel (pivot table and pivot chart) to observe time-series data of important environmental indexes including TSS, BOD, COD, Nitrate, Perchlorate.
• Implemented Linear regression to optimize the filtration speed of the BBF system and Classification algorithm to classify the bad performance of the TSS removal rate then change filtering conditions to improve the BBF system in the removal rate.
• Designed several algorithms to analyze system performance and one data product that was published in a famous industry journal.
• Used Matlab to write a script for the Hessian probability curve, optimizing the script to make it a reusable tool.
• Maintained equipment on-site including replacement of heaters, cleaning pipes, calibration of sensors, etc.
• Assisted the project manager to manage documents including formatting complicated reports and preparing PowerPoint slides, etc. State Water Resources Control Board: Intern July.2018–Jan.2019
• Reviewed groundwater remediation reports and wastewater treatment facility cases
• Supported staff in field inspection to the wastewater treatment facility and prepared the inspection report. SKILL
Language and Tools: Python (NumPy, pandas, matplotlib, Seaborn), R, MATLAB, Power BI, Excel, SPSS, Mathematica, ArcGIS, QGIS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS
Machine Learning: classification, regression, clustering, feature engineering Statistical Methods: descriptive statistics, time series, regression models, hypothesis testing and confidence intervals PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Optimization of Hydrology Models Based on Machine Learning Methods Apr.2018-Jun.2018
• Implemented differential evaluation algorithm with experimental data set to fit the interception model, increasing the performance of the parameters to 0.8854 accuracy and comparing it to the Gauss-Newton algorithm result.
• Utilized DE - MC (Differential Evaluation Markov Chain) simulation to optimize eight parameters of real-world complicated hydrologic modeling making it more reliable.
• Implemented Ensemble Kalman Filter as a data assimilation tool to improve the interception model simulation performance in every state, also compared and analyzed the simulation with no filter’s results. The Impact of Transportation System on the Property Value in LA County Oct.2017-Dec.2017
• Investigated three main aspects’ effect on the land property of Los Angles which including housing structure characteristics, ambient social characteristics, transportation characteristics. Quantitatively analyzed these three aspects, for example, ambient social characteristics are composed of crime rate, high school rank, parks, CBD, etc.
• Used ArcGIS to generate data visualization maps and did data analysis by using hedonic price regression to see results.
• We got the conclusions the educational factors and safety problems are the most important factors to have impacts on the property value in LA County, not transportation characteristics. Flood Risk Maps of Laguna Beach from 1997-2007 Jan.2018-Mar.2018
• Collected data of flood events from 1997- 2007 in the Laguna Hills area and transferred data to be usable.
• Used ArcGIS to analyze the Laguna Hills terrain, vegetation types, soil types and drew surface water runoff path.
• Utilized HAC - RAS to simulate the flood in Laguna hills area and generated the flood maps. Storm Water Modeling (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and associated GIS) Jan.2018-Mar.2018
•Aliso-San Onofre Watershed (80.82 miles2) runoff simulation using HBV-EDU, HEC-HMS and ArcGIS
•Big Bear Lake area snow and liquid water time series calculation using Excel
•Dry Creek Experimental Watershed (11 miles2) runoff simulation using Simplified HBV model
•Washita Watershed (180 miles2) runoff simulation using HEC-HMS The Application of Nanoscale zero-valent Iron (NZVI) in Water Treatment Sep.2015-Nov.2015
• Figured out the best ratio of PVP and Fe to prepare NZVI efficiently.
• Embed NZVI with calcium alginate due to its food-grade feature, considering the inconvenient recycle of small-sized NZVI.
• Tested the removal effect of gel beads on methyl orange using degradation experiments under the conditions of different PH, temperatures, dosages, and pollutant concentrations.
• Characterized and analyzed the gel beads by scanning electron microscope to make primary research on the reaction mechanism and analyzed the reason for the removal of methyl orange by the gel beads. The Monitoring Application of Optical Fiber Sensor in Unsaturated Layer of Underground Water Jun.2015-Jun.2016
• Put forward the method of setting an efficient sensor in the unsaturated layer of underground water (the only seepage way of the surface water) to predict the condition of the underground water in the saturated layer.
• Studied the kinetic characteristics of underground water and the transfer characteristics of contaminants in the unsaturated layer.
• Analyzed the structural property, working principle, and transfer characteristics of the selected optical fiber sensor.
• Made model simulation of the transfer of underground water and contaminants with GMS10.0. Data Analysis in Earth System Science Sep.2018-Dec.2018
• Used Matlab to do 10 data analysis projects in earth science fields covering in descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, curve fitting and interpolation, Image processing, time series, and bivariate statistics.
