Cover Letter - Richard Ross Career Details
Greetings,
My resume gives a 30,000-foot view of the certifications, education, experience, and technologies I have utilized and been exposed to. It is designed to be concise. This document will elaborate with more detail the whole picture of my capabilities that would be a benefit to your organization. It will cover types of projects, positions I have held, technology implementations, leadership roles, and communication abilities. I have had the privilege of working at such entities as NASA, Microsoft, AXA, ARCO, and other Fortune 1000 companies. I’ve done work at government agencies, large corporations, financial institutions, education
(college level), and smaller entities. The roles included application development, full stack development, software engineering, data scientist, data analyst, ETL, web front ends, database programming, report generation, teaching, product management, project management, devops, and leadership. I have gained valuable knowledge in these roles and have been able to utilize my Mathematics degree on many occasions. Financial Industry. The most recent role has involved Data Science, Data Analysis, and programming predictive financial models for commodity futures, futures options, stocks, stock options, and financial derivative products. The technologies include, but are not exclusive, are ASP.NET, VB.NET, C#.NET, SQL Server, Python, MySQL, TensorFlow 2.0, NumPy, Panda, Matplotlib, Jupyter, Anaconda, & Easylanguage. I created financial trading models and automated trading systems. This involves a major amount of ETL and cleaning data to feed into the models. Report generation and analysis of that data. Health Care. I was the team lead programmer responsible for a health care white label firm. This involved maintaining over 2600 web pages and creating new portal sockets. The firm handled COBRA and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for a host of clients including Blue Cross Blue Shield. Technologies included web services, asp.net, asp, C#.net, vb.net, T-SQL, and SQL Server database. This also included some AJAX programming.
Defense Industry. I was the lead developer for a defense software contractor that provided data analytics to fully staff any defense function, but with less personnel. This created more efficiency and reduced cost for the U.S. Government. Technologies included Javascript, VB.NET, & SQL Server programming. Defense work also included full life cycle development (DevOps) with thin client interfaces for various military bases and at NASA. I served as both a Product Manager and then a Project Manager leading a team in the full life cycle software process. This included design methods utilizing the ‘Use Case’, Microsoft Project/Office, and Visio for database design. Many projects required on-site work at various government facilities that required certain clearances and access permissions.
Insurance. Worked with the actuaries at AXA (2nd largest Insurance firm in the world) programming GUI and application program to provided live quotes for annuity and other insurance products. I was lead developer and oversaw a team that took excel sheets from the actuary team and created the live interactive program utilizing Visual Basic. This included programming the installation software. Retail. I worked at the corporate headquarters for The Container Store. Technologies I programmed were VB, Oracle database, PL/SQL, & Crystal Reports. Was lead for C-Suite high level reports requested on a need to know basis. Created products for back office usage for payroll, accounting, purchasing, public relations, human resources. At one time I was over 40 different projects for internal usage. Also created bank injection program sent to banks weekly that created check info, check number and amount, to overcome financial security threats and fraud. I’ve also worked at the corporate headquarters for Brookmays Music, largest band music retailer in the U.S. This included thin client back off systems and an Agile style streamline wholesale order process that gave a 10 fold increase in efficiency. Communication skills. In the various capacities already listed I’ve made presentations to military decision makers, C-Suite executive, investment committees, and the general public. As a project manager I’ve had to oversee a team and conduct strategy sessions, team meetings, and interface with the end users. I have written articles for Futures Magazine, Modern Trader magazine, & The Money Show. I was also the host of the New York Money Show and spoke to over 1,000 participants throughout a 4 hour program period. I do a fair amount of public speaking. Lastly on the communication front I just completed a derivative data science trading book soon to be released.
Real Estate. On and off for over a decade I provided customized programming services for a large commercial development retail firm. This included vb.net, asp.net, excel, vba, SQL Server database design, implementation, and programming. These internal customized programs included an on the fly lease document program that allowed for unique and special contingencies that are involved in the commercial real estate industry. I also designed and implemented a host of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports for the firm.
Certifications and Education. My degree is in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science Engineering. I’ve obtained certifications in Power BI, Javascript, & ASP. I have also taught college level courses on application development, web, and programming. On a personal basis I volunteer time to help and council men through various challenges they face and stages of life. This might be overcoming an addiction, life changes, and unexpected events that cause major disruptions. It’s personally satisfying to see somebody overcome a major obstacle and know that you had something to do with their success. An additional benefit is that many times these men go on to help others overcome their unique issues and challenges. Thus, propagating the positive influence. I’m an intuitive team player leader with experience in the industries listed above. I’m adaptable and able to learn new technologies. I love a challenge and enjoy resolving issues with code and data analysis/science. I can work independently, on a team, or lead an effort. I’ve been exposed to and touched a lot of various technologies. Sometimes there are several recipes to resolve an issue and I’m open to those possibilities. I’d like the chance to fix issues, bring fresh ideas, and help the organization grow. Sincerely,
--Richard Ross
