EXPERIENCE / TIMELINE
I Hired in at LTV in August of 1999 on their Blast Furnaces
I started out as a Laborer, shoveling raw materials in the Stockhouses, and the Highline.
Within a few months, I began training on the Casthouses, learning about refractories
and the Blast Furnace processes. Then, the company needed an hourly Foreman for
the Highline and Stockhouses, and I trained and took that job. Six months later I was
asked to train as a Casthouse “Blower” Foreman. Once I was trained on that, I was
offered a Salaried position with the company.
I was charged with making sure the Furnace was tapped on time, and the molten iron and
slag was drained from the hearth. Other duties on that job were checking and monitoring
the integrity of the Slag and Iron Runner refractory. In 2005, I was transferred to #7 Blast
Furnace in the same capacity. The following year, we went injury free for the entire year.
In the next few years, we set new production records- 13k tons a day, and 4 million tons
for the year.
In 2011, I was transferred to #4 Steel Producing and became a Shift Manager, charged
with seven areas- The Ladle make up area, the LMF, Tundish Yard, RHOB, the Caster,
Withdrawal and the Scarfer.
