PROJECTS/LABS

Engineering Design Spring 2019 - Fall 2019

Collaborated on design and selection of parts for an 800mm X-Class racing drone with focus on the control system, e.g. Electronic Speed Controllers with performance and cost in mind.

Drafted a project plan Gantt chart with a three-week buffer period using Microsoft Project.

Performed a basic vibrational analysis of the drone arm to evaluate the effects of arm vibrations on overall flight performance.

Digital Manufacturing Fall 2018

Designed a headphone connector piece to replace the broken piece from the BAUHN Headset to be produced by an FDM 3D-printer.

Utilized Autodesk Fusion 360’s topology optimization feature to redesign the BAUHN headset connector which resulted in a reduced weight of 40% of the original part’s weight.

Used SolidWorks to design a theoretical prototype for a 3D printer that could be used to print LED bulbs to facilitate more complex bulb shapes.

Mechanical Power Systems Spring 2018

Analyzed the thermodynamic and hydrodynamic properties of the Solar Thermal Power Plant.

Examined the thermal storage unit sub-system of the Plant individually with a focus on the thermodynamics, hydrodynamics, and cost of the sub-system.

Assessed the options of using feed-water heater systems as well as heat exchangers to better the performance.

Heat Transfer I Lab Spring 2018

Assessed the one-dimensional heat conduction of a heat sink using fin analysis with a DAQ

Tested a cube of potato in boiling water to prove the limits of the lumped system model using thermocouples and a DAQ on thermal transient objects

Estimated the heat transfer convection coefficient of a heat sink under forced convection conditions with the use of a DAQ, and pitot tube with digital readout
