Reston Surgery Center, HCA Healthcare – July 2019 - Current Sterile Processing Supervisor and Educator

● Provides daily work direction to staff.

● Coordinates sterile processing services to meet the instrumentation needs of the OR and all ancillary departments. Assesses the OR schedule to identify unusual or conflicting instrumentation needs.

● Supervise frequent quick turnover of instrument sets needed for multiple surgeries.

● The Surgery Center averages 20-30 cataract surgeries and 10-15 knee arthroscopies per day. In addition, there are frequent hand or foot orthopedic surgeries and neuro/spine surgeries. The Surgery Center completed over 1000 cases in March 2020.

● Acts as an instrumentation resource person to all OR staff. Serves as the liaison between the Sterile Processing area and operating room staff, management and surgeons to ensure effective communication and promote problem resolution.

● Ensure department compliance with AAMI standards and JCAHO requirements.

● Maintain surgical equipment, sending out for repair/sharpening as needed.

● Organized department, updating countsheets and creating an accurate inventory to better prepare for OR needs.

Sterile Processing Technician II (CRCST certified) Sole overnight worker in SPD for 2 years functioning as a team lead working with OR Coordinators

● Quickly took leadership role in the evening and became point of contact for all surgical coordinator’s day-to-day needs.

● Rapidly respond to instrument needs for ongoing surgical cases.

● Ensure all surgical cases the following day have the required instruments.

● Maintain par levels for all instruments, ordering replacements as needed.

● Maintain Loaner Instrument system, ensuring the day shift is kept up to date on the Operating Rooms’ needs and specialized equipment is correctly processed.

● Wash, assemble, and sterilize surgical instrumentation, ensuring proper documentation at each step for patient safety and JCAHO Accreditation.
