REPRESENTATIVE ACHIEVEMENTS
While building a wind farm for Alliant Energy, improved delivery and kept foundation construction on schedule by installing crane mats to foundation sites that had been inaccessible due to mud and snow.
Kept wind farm project schedule on time by overcoming issues with the sub-station construction. The layout was interfering with existing underground high voltage cables. In addition, the site was very wet and getting the soil dry enough to compact was costing time and schedule. Relocated site ~50 feet to avoid underground high voltage cables and stabilized soil with cement to improve compaction and keep the schedule intact.
Cut $12 million in costs and improved project schedule by 6 months by recommending design changes to facilitate construction of all steel structures including warehouse and truck shop on project with Hill International in Canada.
Overcame language and cultural differences, and serious risk of civil unrest challenges as Manager of Projects for Eldorado Gold in Turkey. Built entire construction department from scratch. Hired a staff of 26 engineers, safety personal, project controls personnel. Established work procedures, processes and Safety Department where none existed. Developed and wrote contracts, RFQ’S bid evaluation process and construction procedures. The executive staff in Vancouver Canada was very pleased with the transition and accomplishment.
Faced with -40 degree weather and scheduling challenges to avoid liquidated damages while building a transmission line through wetlands in Canada. The pilings were steel H beams that had to be driven. At negative 40 degrees this was not possible. I made the decision to build and heat tents over each pile site to bring temperature above freezing in order to drive H beams. Completed project on time without suffering financial penalties.
Successfully completed construction projects in Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan and Bahrain, often in very remote and dangerous areas requiring protection by armed guards and personal firearms.
