Optimizing Medical Alert Identification in Adrenal Insufficiency Madison, WI

Education is a key strategy in prevention of adrenal crisis in patients with AI. Preliminary clinic data revealed insufficient medical alert ID use in patients with primary and especially secondary AI

Created an Epic smart phrase for medical staff which reminded physicians, PAs, and NPs to ask about medical alert ID along with available resources for patients

Educated medical assistants in clinic to ask patients about medical alert ID (if applicable) when steroids are seen on their medication lists

Find MODY (Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young) Evanston, IL

Northshore IM Residency Research Project: PI Dr. Liana Billings 10/17-6/19

Identified individuals with Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) who have been misdiagnosed as type 1 or type 2 diabetes using the NorthShore HealthSystem electronic health records (HER) database

Results demonstrate that data extracted directly from the HER (or automated screening) can be easily used to screen patients at high risk for MODY, thereby, allowing for timely genetic testing and targeted therapy

Northshore IM Residency Research Project: PI Dr. Robert Woodrick 1/17-10/19

Screened patients with rheumatologic disorders in the NorthShore electronic database to determine the incidence of hepatotoxicity while on methotrexate (MTX) therapy

Performed chart review to correlate patient characteristics and hepatic profile with the course of MTX therapy

The research demonstrated low prevalence of MTX associated hepatotoxicity
