Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) is state owned sole transmission and distribution system owner and operator for the electricity and water in Qatar. Since its inception, Kahramaa has operated as an independent corporation on a commercial basis with a total capital of eight billion Qatari Riyals.

Responsibilities included:

1. To coordinate the input to the development and implementation of HSE policy, objectives, standards, procedures and guidance in line with KAHRAMAA’s policies and operations.

2. Identify hazards, evaluate risk, assess consequences and monitor compliance in order to provide governance and assurance of major accident hazards and risks related to KAHRAMAA’s operations & activities

3. Conduct assessment studies such as operations HSEIA, COMAH and QRA in close coordination with line departments, in order to assure consistency across company in line with company COPs.

Projects Involved:

Qatar Power Transmission Expansion Project – Phase 11

It is an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) project for the supply and commissioning of transmission lines and substations along with dismantling of Overhead Lines (OHL). The contracts facilitate commissioning of total 52 substations comprising 46 Main substations and 12 Framework substations. Apart from it, total 1031 km (Main and framework) cables will be laid and 97 km of OHLs will be dismantled.

Contractor Involved: 9 (Siemens, L&T, ABB, Alstom, ETA etc.)

Water Mega Reservoir & Pumping Station

The project entails construction of five mega primary reservoirs and water pumping stations (PRPS) at Umm Birka, Umm Slal, Al Thumama, Rawdhat Rashid and Abu Nakhla along with large diameter ring mains. Each PRPS will have 7-9 reservoirs with storage capacity of 488 MIG. PRPS consist of Water Reservoirs, Pump Stations including Pumps, Motors, High and Low Voltage Switchgear, VFDs, PLC & SCADA systems, Chlorination system and Water Quality equipment.

Project also includes commissioning of water main corridor of 280 km connecting five Mega Reservoirs along with 200 km of associated transmission lines.

Kahramaa Awareness Park

Education and Awareness Park - futuristic “green” building with interactive exhibits, 3D movie

halls, to promote electricity and water conservation. The park is designed as a "Green Building" to serve as an education centre for children & residents for spreading awareness about energy conservation & meets Qatar Sustainability Assessment System by taking effective measures to minimize obstruction of daylight, providing landscape that encourages green and fights desertification, applying efficient lighting, cooling, plumbing and irrigation systems as well as using solar energy to heat and treat grey water.

Nishat group has two oil-fired power plants with two 362 and 365 MW steam turbines having combine generation capacity of 727 MW. Nishat sells electricity to the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), the state-owned utility, under 30-year power purchase agreements. Both Plants are ISO14001 & OHSAS 18001 Certified.

Nishat Group takeover both units in June, 2010 from AES Corporation which is global power company having generation and distribution businesses in 29 countries.

Responsibilities included:

1. Maintain compliance with Federal, State and local HSE and Operational requirements
