PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS Nurse Practitioner (Same Day Surgery), Nicklaus Children's Hospital 2013-2019

·Created and ran the preoperative clinic, obtaining history, ordering labs, obtaining clearances and referring patients for specialty consultations. Worked closely with the anesthesiologists and other specialty offices to promote comprehensive care for the patients. Preoperative clinic started in 2015 and grew every year by more than 50%, in 2018 the preoperative clinic grew by 71% with all specialties from cardiac, orthopedic, urology, neurosurgery and ENT referring patients.

·Assessed patients and performed history and physicals on all surgical patients admitted to the Same Day Surgery Unit.

· Wrote medication orders for the anesthesiologist for preoperative patients

· Ordered and interpreted results of appropriate diagnostic tests including, but not limited to, clinical laboratory studies, x-rays and EKG’s, MRI’s and CT scans

· Initiated referrals to other disciplines on the health care team Nurse Manager/Nurse Practitioner Dual Role (Oncology/Same Day Surgery/Minor Procedure Suite), Nicklaus Children's Hospital

1995-2013

·Collaborated with Cerner as the Preoperative Lead to create a surgical documentation system for preoperative, anesthesia and postoperative hospital personnel.

· Dual role in managing of nurses, care assistants, and secretaries working during the shift of 2 surgical departments as well as conducting history and physicals on surgical patients.

·Created a LEAN process where ARNP’s in the Same Day Surgery Dept wrote preoperative medication using a LEAN created checklist.

· Communicated with families, patients, physicians, ancillary departments and supervisors. Continuously evaluated processes and made recommendations to Director. Developed and executed policies and procedures. Responsible for staffing assignment, scheduling and budgeting of staff.

·Personnel / Training: Interviewed job candidates and allocated the staff to precept new employees, thereafter monitored their progress, served as an advisor and Unit Educator on staff training/development needs. Created and completed numerous unit in-services for staff.

·Conducted History and Physical: Examined surgical patients prior to surgery and provided clearance prior to the surgical procedure. Ordered labs and consults if needed for surgical patients. In collaboration with the anesthesiologist wrote orders for preoperative medications.

Significant Accomplishments: Procedure Suites was a small unit of 6 staff nurses and procedures performed were only dental and GI procedures, since then the unit has grown to have schedule different specialties such as dermatology, minor plastic surgery, lumbar puncture with chemotherapy, PICC line insertion and orthopedic cases. Therefore, the staffing had to increase by double in order to accommodate the unit needs.

Nurse Practitioner (Pain Team), Nicklaus Children's Hospital 2016-2019

· Evaluated, assessed and treated all different types of pain: acute and chronic.

· Coordinated treatment with the anesthesiologist, nurses and primary physician on treatment and care while patient is admitted.

· Provided teaching to patients showing them how to help manage their own pain, medication and alternative ways to relieve their pain.

· Along with the anesthesiologist, ordered appropriate medications and other therapeutic techniques.

Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry Unit), Nicklaus Children's Hospital 2010-2019

· Assessed patients and performed history and physicals on psychiatric patients that were admitted as well as managed medical care on existing patients in the psychiatric unit.

· Ordered and interpreted results of appropriate diagnostic tests including, but not limited to, clinical laboratory studies, x-rays and EKG’s, MRI’s and CT scans.

· Initiated consultations to other disciplines on the health care team

· Collaborated with the psychiatrist on the medical needs of the patient while in the psychiatric unit.
