RESEARCH
Project: Creating a Highly Efficient Thermoelectric Device Using Multi-Layer Thin Films
AAMU Clean Room Aug. 2017 – April 2018
Served as team lead for a group of four to create a thermoelectric device using multilayer thin films.
Compared the voltage, current, and power for 3 different sets of multilayer thin films on one sample.
The materials or elements used were Silicon/Germanium and Silicon/Antimony.
Used silicone dioxide(SiO2) substrate to begin 50, 100, and 150 multilayer thin film deposition using DC/RF Magnetron Sputtering Machine.
Used the Filmetrics UV Thickness Measurement System to check the thickness of the multilayer film.
Thermal annealing process was used to form nano-structures in my multilayer thin films.
Measured and characterized the newly fabricated device using the Seebeck coefficient machine and the Van der Pauw resistivity machine.
Utilized a laser thermal conductivity machine to see how efficient the fabricated device became.
Used the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to see how the surface of my fabricated device changed through the thermal annealing process and the Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS) to see the ratio difference of the elements at different areas on the fabricated device.
Project met IEEE standards completing my project.
The result showed Silicon/Antimony is more efficient than Silicon/Germanium.
