M.S. ORTHOPAEDICS (2016-2019): MAHATMA GANDHI INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES (MGIMS), SEWAGRAM, WARDHA

I underwent training for M.S. Orthopaedics (from May 2016 to April 2019) at MGIMS Sewagram, which is a 1000 bed superspeciality hospital with all major departments. I had undergone training in various specialties of hand surgery, spine surgery, Arthroplasty surgeries, adult reconstructive surgery, Traumatology, general Orthopaedics and Pediatric Orthopaedics.
My training program included:
1. Training in taking an adequate history of patients, doing a thorough physical examination and directing specific investigations, offering a differential diagnosis, discussing various modes of treatment and communicating with the patients and their relatives.
2. Training to perform minor and major Orthopaedics subspecialty surgical procedures and management of Orthopaedics emergencies.
3. Taking active part in paper presentations, organizing symposiums, Journal club meetings and CME programs as part of the postgraduate training.
4. My Orthopaedics THESIS for M.S. ORTHO is on “Functional Outcome of Open reduction and Internal Fixation of Proximal Humerus Fractures using PHILOS plate”
PASSED M.S. ORTHOPAEDICS IN SUMMER 2019 WITH 62.5%.
PRESENT EMPLOYMENT
Currently working as SENIOR RESIDENT, in the Department of Orthopaedics, from July 2019 till date at MGIMS, Sewagram, Wardha.
Our department had two units with the full time services of four consultants and 3 junior consultants,2 senior residents and total 12 Orthopaedic postgraduate trainees. My responsibilities included:
1. Helping the consultant run the outpatient department, day to day care of in-patients, pre-operative assessment and communication with patients and relatives.
2. Assist consultants in various major Orthopaedic procedures like bone tumours, spine and arthroplasty and be the first surgeon during all basic trauma surgeries and Hemiarthroplasties.
3. Present the departmental activities during the monthly hospital meetings.
4. To take classes for the Orthopaedic trainees and Undergraduate students regarding the Orthopaedic procedures
PRESENTATIONS AND PUBLICATIONS :
Scientific paper titled ‘FUNCTIONAL OUTCOME OF OPEN REDUCTION AND INTERNAL FIXATION OF PROXIMAL HUMERUS FRACTURES WITH PROXIMAL HUMERUS INTERNAL LOCKING OSTEOSYNTHESIS SYSTEM (PHILOS) PLATE’ at the 37th Annual Conference of Vidarbha Orthopaedic Society held at Nagpur in October 2018.
