Incorporated a small acquisition by migrating IMAP email from mailboxes on a Gmail service provider to Exchange Online and Office 365 and created a cross-tenant with the existing Exchange/Office 365 system.

Provisioned new Exchange Online mailboxes by creating Office 365 user accounts and assigned Exchange Online/Office 365 user licenses.

Communicate with users on the migration process.

Created a CSV file that contains a row for each user whose IMAP mailbox will be migrated.

Created IMAP Migration endpoint on EAC

Created and started an IMAP migration batch using the Migration dashboard in the Exchange Admin Center and completed the batches using the Exchange Management Shell.

The system creates a migration request for each user listed in the CSV file containing the user name and encrypted password for the account in the IMAP messaging system.

The system starts processing migration requests. This part of the process is called initial synchronization. For each user listed in the CSV file.

Initial synchronization begins for each user listed in the CSV file, and copies messages from the IMAP mailbox to the corresponding Exchange Online/Office 365 mailbox until all the mailbox data is migrated.

Incremental synchronization is used to reroute any mail within the next 24 hours to the new Exchange Online/Office 365 mailboxes.

Migrated subsequent batches until all user mailboxes were migrated.

Validated results of migration after each batch and resolved any migration issues.

After all IMAP mailboxes were successfully migrated, updated the organization's MX record to point to the Office 365 email organization.

Deleted the IMAP migration batches, removed synchronization between systems and deleted mailboxes on the IMAP system.

Step 1: Verify the domain in the Office 365 tenant. Verify registration, ownership, and access in Office 365.

Step 2: Add the domain in Office 365 to the domains page.

Since you will need to create email addresses for your users in the Office 365 environment, the on-premises domain must be added and verified before you can initiate the migration process.

Step 3: Start the Minimal/Express Migration

Sign into Office 365 and using the Exchange Hybrid Configuration Wizard, choose “update “to prepare mailboxes for synchronization.

Use the Wizard to connect you Exchange Server with the default values.

Validate credentials for Exchange on premise and Exchange online.

In the minimal hybrid configuration wizard, updated to prepare the on-premise mailboxes for migration.

Step 4: User Provisioning

In the Office 365 Hybrid Configuration Wizard, run Directory Synchronization to create users in Office 365

Download and install Azure AD Connect wizard to complete the synchronization. Used Azure AD Connect wizard to synchronize users from on-premise to Office 365, using the default options-for-express settings.

Step 5: Assign Office 365 licenses to users in the Office 365 Admin Center

Assign Office 365 licenses in the Office 365 Admin Center, so your users will be assigned cloud mailboxes to which their on-premises mailbox data will be migrated.

Step 6: Migrate User mailboxes along with mailbox data

In the Office 365 Admin Center migrate 2 user mailboxes as a test migration.

Step 7: Update Public DNS Records

In DNS, change MX record to point to Office 365 so all new emails will be routed to Office 365.
