Research and Professional Experience

Freelance Technical Consultant 08/2019-present

ThriveMD, Shaumburg, IL

Discuss science behind some therapies being offered or considered.

Senior Scientist 11/2014 through 4/2015

LifeSensors Inc., Malvern, PA

Preliminarily developed a functional protein microarray as a platform to assay small molecule inhibitors of DUB activity.

Generated ubiquitin mutants for amino acid analog substitution and post-translational labeling by click chemistry modification.

Explored in-vitro ubiquitinion of IgG molecules.

Research Specialist II 10/2010 through 7/2014

Randall Lab

Department of Microbiology

University of Chicago, Chicago, IL

Successfully carried out a screen of small molecule inhibitors of Fatty Acid Synthase to identify those with inhibitory activity to Dengue virus (DNV) infection for further SAR studies in collaboration with Infinty Pharmaceuticals.

Introduced and led a project looking at the potential roles of different ERAD-associated proteins in the replication of Hepatitis C virus (HCV); identified two cellular proteins which are likely involved in establishing HCV infection.

Managed an independent project looking at the interaction between a DNV-encoded protein with human Fatty Acid Synthase (FASN); identified a novel K63-linked ubiquitinated form of FASN which correlates with a novel enzymatic activity of the enzyme. This work waits further development for publication.

Successfully purified several different viral and cellular proteins in support of different projects in the lab, resulting in two completed manuscripts as a co-author.

Graduate Research Assistant 9/1999 through 7/2007

Musil Lab

Oregon Health and Science University, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Portland, Oregon

Demonstrated that hyperthermic and oxidative stress affect proteasome-mediated degradation of both cytosolic and ER-localized proteins at the ubiquitination step.

Education

•Masters of Science (M.S.) 2007; Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, OR; Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology

• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) 1995; Benedictine University, Lisle, IL; Major: Molecular Biology; Minor: Biochemistry
